After I looked at both pictures at their actual size carefully, it does seem that AA is, in effect, working! I don't know how it's working for Sherv but on my 9800 Pro, turning on AA makes no difference and I get major slowdown.

Optimummind, are you sure you've tried it with AA "application preference" ticked, I know this makes most game NOT work with AA, but for some reason Splinter Cell only work with this ticked?
BTW, cheers for posting those screenshots, they are a bit dark but you can still see there's a big difference between the two.

Yes, even 'Application Preference' is checked, the game does not support AA. If I set the AA setting manually to 4x or whatever, AA still doesn't work and the game slows down massively.

Thats a major pisser.
Have you checked your system temps or your bios setup? (ram timings too aggresive, fast writes on etc)

Uhh.. guys.. Isn't this the same AA problem that Valve mentioned with Half-Life2?? I seem to remember they said Splinter Cell had the same problem. They since then have fixed it in HL2 but I don't think it was addressed with Splinter Cell. ATI should be able to do it, but Nvidia can't. (remember the HL2 uproar?)

just a thought..

err....i think it has nothing to do with that, every thing just runs very smoothly with every thing on on other games except splinter cell, just dont know why, i can see the major difference when turning 6AA and 16AF, but it wont last........---> Hang!

It doesn't matter what AA method you try 2,4 or 6x, you will still get the light sources appearing through walls, the only fix i've ever heard of is turning your night vision on and off a couple of times.
