Where are the 3.7's?

Just wanted to start another thread letting ATI know that I'm waiting...

Going to install a new GigaCube Radeon 9600 Pro card Friday!

3.7s

yes, I'm a little surprised as well that they are not here yet, but not as surprised as I am over the lack of posts concerning this. it has got to be a new record for low post count on posts concerning the lack of the new drivers, and take it a step farther, the lack of any beta testers or some one in the know saying, "you guys are going to like these, and we will post them just as soon as they get MS's stamp of approval."

but then again, what ya going to do?

Looking in the members page, I noticed Catalystmaker hasn't posted anything since August 8. Maybe the Catalyst team is on an extended vacation or are working feverishly on some finishing touches or MS is dragging their feet.

Perhaps they failed WQHL certification? Perhaps they are angry over the release of that OEM set and decided that all of us can now pound salt? (doubtful )

Point is, until the Cat team tells us something or release the drivers, we all have to JUST WAIT. Only the Cat team and the Beta Testers know anything at all, and they ain't talking.

For the time being, the 3.5 'hotfix' drivers are serving me well....

Which is BULLSHIT- They should at least tell us when- and if not when, tell us why the driver cycle broke-- Or say something, anything.

I think someone needs to calm down...there are worse things than not having a new set of drivers for a few weeks.

Not having drivers is fine, but telling us they are going to be on a schedule and then not sticking to schedule, then not saying a peep- that's what I think is uncool. Or maybe just sketchy- But BS is also a description I might use-

I'm not really pissed or anything, just think it's wack. I 'm actually pretty happy with current driver choices.

I never say much about their drivers, but now I will.

I think they have great d3d drivers, but their OGL still needs work. OGL is usully slower and looks worse in any game that supports both d3d and OGL.

It looks fine on my voodoo 5 6000 in OGL and d3d, and a card from 2003 can't match it!?! something seems a little wrong there.

The releases are still within the statment CM made:

"I want to officially announce that in the near future we will do even better. CATALYST will now officially be posted a minimum of 12 times a year! That’s right monthly updates (and note I threw the word ‘minimum’ in there). "

That was on roughly May 20th...

Since then there have been 3 postings (and for arguments sake we shall say the next one is next week. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE NEXT CATS ARE BEING POSTED I AM JUST USING NEXT WEEK AS AN EXAMPLE TO ILLUSTRATE THE FOLLOWING...)

So Statment of min 12 per year : 20-27 May
Post of 3.4 : 24 May
Post of 3.5 : 23 June
Post of 3.6 : 15 July
Post of 3.7 (guess) : 8 Sept = 4 cats in 15 weeks

If you follow 4 cats per 15 weeks over the next year then that means after 45 weeks ATI meet their target with 7 weeks to spare for other releases.

NOTE: I can't believe i just worked that out...how sad! Thats what nightshift does to you kids!

i am excited over these cat 3.7 (version 7.92.XXXX) , cos with this release of drivers, I am expecting FireGL 7.92 drivers to be available soon. And FireGL will join the ranks of 9700 and 9800 to be DX9 compliant.

I seem to remember that CM said they are going to start the 'once a month' releases AFTER the 3.7's. He also said that it doesn't mean they definitely will be released exactly once a month, but generally speaking ABOUT once a month. Now, doncha think that applies to the 6 week release schedule too? It's ABOUT every six weeks, they can slip a or few days or a week or so and still maintain drivers on a fairly regular basis. You know, they don't HAVE to release new drivers as often as they do, just be glad that they do.

Yeah, we all thrive on the next new driver release , but whining for them ain't gonna get them out any faster. We all have to JUST WAIT.

Chill out people, be patient. They will come sooner-or-later. Take a chill-pill.

3.7s

I agree with most of what has been said here concerning the 3.7's, from "I thought they were releasing a new version about every 6 weeks" to, "there is nothing we can do about it till they get posted."

But Veridian's timeline about the three previous drivers and the arrival of the 3.7's doesn't make much sense to me. if he would look at his own timeline he will see that the last posting, the 3.6s, were way back in the middle of July.

Today's date is September 3rd., and that's 48 days, almost 7 weeks and this is why people are "looking" for the new set, especially since it was stated that new releases would be about every 4 to 6 weeks and they were going to try to put out a new set once a month.

It's kind of funny, here's a forum for people to comment on various aspects of computers and related software and such, but as soon as someone starts asking questions you see attitudes jumping off, then the next thing you know they will close the thread, put out warnings, and then the #$@* will really hit the fan. Just hope that in the middle of all that #$*& is the 3.7's so we can scrape them off and give em a try.

River
