Pissed System hang after XP Load Screen

Dear gurus,

Before I go on, this is my system info:

Asus A7V8X - Mobo at Optimal Setting
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
1 Gig PC2700 Ram by Kingston
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
ATI Catalyst 4.6 Drivers
Creative SB Audigy Platinum EX
Windows XP Pro SP 1
Direct X 9.0

Heat
- CPU at 42 degrees
- MOBO at a lower temp

I had this thing running stable, there was like a 2 sec Black screen after the XP load screen. This I am satisfied with. One day, (that awful day) Nero 6 decided to lock and not close itself down, I tried to force reboot, but Windows decided to stay at Windows Shutting Down screen. That is when I had enough and went for the hard reboot.

After that I started experiencing crazy hang time, aprox > 3 mins after the XP load screen. Although, it eventually loads into windows.

I got fed up. I took the following steps to try to fix this:

1. Went into Control Panel , Uninstalled all ATI related software/drivers.
2. Removed the two Display Adapters in Hardware Profile.
3. Restarted in Safe Mode
4. Went into Registry Deleted, all ATI related Registries.
5. Restarted in Normal Mode
6. Attempted to install ATI drivers and software again.

Problem even after removing the software/drivers it still had the black screen HANG for over 3 mins.

7. Still having that stupid black screen during load.
8. Came here, saw OMEGA drivers. Installed that. No change.

This is not the first time that this has happened. Everytime that this happened, I had to FORMAT and reinstall for it to be Stable and Perfect. But for some reason, the drivers or something seems to creep into my system and screw it up after awhile.

This time I am just so sick and tired of installing all the software/drivers again, backing up important files is a pain in the ass.

Im in need of help and suggestion to help me through this.

Once I get home tonight I will uninstall the OMEGA drivers and install the new ATI Radeon 4.7 Drivers to see if it helps.

thanks in advance for all who helps.

-Edit-
BTW, should fastwrite be on or off?
I heard it should be off, should it be?
I dont want this to be where I have 8x mobo and a 8x vid card but to run it stable would mean running it at 4x... <// I personally think that is stupid. Its like buying a car with the engine power of a poodle.

why do you think it is a GPU driver problem? if it hung on nero 6 and has never been the same there is no indication that it is ati drivers causing your hang. that and the fact that you have tried several different ati drivers all with the same result. I would look elsewhere for the problem.... go to start->run and type in msconfig and go to startup tab and see what all is running at startup. post back the list

An advice for you, regarding OS, try win2k pro. It is a much more stable OS. I see that you are using ASUS mobo, Am I right that you are using 2x512MB ram? You might want to check how your ram should be arranged, it might have contributed to that instability that you are experincing.

DoH, Im never at home when im posting. So what i can tell u is this:
Norton AntiVirus
Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse
AIM

But remember this happens even when going into SafeMode, it would hang for a long while before loading into windows.

I dont think Nero is the cause.

Hmm ram arrangement? Please elaborate more on that please.

You're correct. 2 x 512

1 x 512 PC 2700 by PNY
1 x 512 PC 2700 by KINGSTON

Hmm but if it is the ram, wouldnt it be unstable from the start?

And cat 4.7 DID NOT help!! ahhhh!!!! Kill me NOW!
