Hey, I'm having problems with my installation. I did run the w1zzard hacked drivers but decided to switch to the omega drivers after hearing some good things. Well, I uninstalled the w1zzard drivers completely and attempted to install the Omega drivers. The drivers appeared to install with no problem. After restarting as instructed, I tried logging in, where the screen flickered (correctly I assume) but then nothing happened for like 5 minutes. I restarted the computer manually and couldn't log in anymore. It would log in, then log right back out. I tried going into safe mode uninstalling the drivers, going back into normal mode, and reinstalling the drivers 2 (also tried the non-hacked drivers) with the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SPECS:
VID: ATI Radeon 9500
MOB: ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
CPU: 2000+ AMD Athlon XP
RAM: 512 PC2100 DDR

I think it's kinda misleading how I used "hacked" dirvers but it just enables the 8 pipelines and 156bit bus in a 9500 np to convert to a 9700. It doesn't OC for you though, so you have to do it all on your own and such.. (http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/index.php)

Anyone have any thoughts on my problems with the Omega drivers?

Ah, well, I managed to get the omega drivers working but am having that dreaded checkerboard effect. Guh, it's wicked annoying. I haven't OCed my vid card any (at least, nothing past default installation clock speeds) so I'm not sure how to solve the problem... Anyone managed to fix it?

If you get checkerboard, your card is not moddable. At least that's what I've heard.

I have to admit, I had better results with the normal driver, not modded, for my 9700 pro. This is my first time using omega drivers and I have to say that I am very impressed with the results. I can tell a significant difference in my graphics, clearer and smoother. Great job omega. Here were my results on testing...

3.7 Catylyst
3dmark03 - 5839
3dmark2001se - 17161

Omgea 2.4.78 (modded)
3dmark03 - 5698
3dmark2001se - 17153

Omega 2.4.78 (normal)
3dmark03 - 5857
3dmark2001se - 17475

As u can see, the modded driver didnt work well for me. What exactly does it do anyway??

Nice Work OmegaDrive (Again). You should be employed by Ati ...

Ive switched from using cat Omega 3.4s now.
NO problems at all.

These cats seem to be the best for me since Omega 3.4s
Time will tell but these seem to be much better than the last
lot of releases.

Much respect due, I tried 3.5,3.6 Ati but I just stayed with Omega3.4s
The 3.4s were such a big leap in quality but the new 3.7s are in my opinion the
best drivers yet.

Good installer too.

p.s cj7mudrover. To check if the modded driver has worked check to see if your smoooth vision says 2.1, the modded driver changes some of the driver paths to the same as on radeon 9800. I have allways got better results with the modded driver version.

Hi all, not sure this belongs here but here goes. Have Rad 9500 o/c'd to 9700 with Omega drivers. Most recent driver update is to 2.4.74a _but_ original drivers are still listed in start menu 2.4.60. I want to upgrade to latest listed release but should I unistall all previous versions or what is best route? Is it ok to remove older driver versions. Many thanks

May I welcome you to DH

Omega has a newer release than the 2.4.74a set.....They can be found here (rad_w2kxp_omega_2478) They are built around the Catalyst 3.7 drivers from ATI...Omega's drivers have a built in uninstall process that should remove pervious drivers but it never hurts to use a tool like Driver Cleaner to totally remove all prior installations first....

To caspol, uninstall all versions and install the 2.4.78 driver.

Now, to esaz666, i cant seem to find where it says smoothvision 2.1. Only place I found that says smooth vision, is the opengl and direct3d tabs in the settings, it says Smoothvision II. Not sure if thats it or not. Also, with the modded driver, I am getting not as good of picture as the normal ones. When I drag windows around on the desktop and such, it trails and lags. Not too impressed. Neways, this is my first time using these omega drivers so I could be doing something wrong. Any Ideas??

Sad

Hi,

This is the first time I have ever used these drivers and on the whole they are very good. Certainly better performing than the stock drivers that came with my laptop. (Advent 7016 - ATI Mobility 9000)

I do have one problem with them though, since installing them I can no longer use the hibernate mode of XP. When I reload after hibernating the screen is horribly corrupt, both the display and the background. If I reboot I don#t get the problem.

Anyone else seen this problem? Any thoughts?

Well, I know that I've used other hacked drivers and modded the card with no problems. It used to be that all you have to do is lower the clock and have no problems but because I haven't clocked the card any, I'm not what the prob is.

question

Hey, just heard about the Omega drivers and downloaded them to check them out. I have a question/problem though, and am not sure what is going on. Running the Advanced SMARTGART options, my system keeps resetting to both PCI and AGP read/write OFF. I have tried repeatedly to turn the AGP read/write on to no avail. Is there another setting somewhere I need to adjust, is my system just retarded, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks-

Check your BIOS to see if it's enabled there

Only option I see in my BIOS is for Fast Write, which I have disabled. I have a feeling I am missing something, but I haven't a clue what it is.

Found out more infor on this, it seems that sometimes, when the computer comes out of hibernate mode, the clock rates for the ATI get screwed up. Normally the settings are 249.75 for the processor and 198 for the memory, however when the corruption occurs the values are both set to 319. (the values are from the clock rate panel).

The problem occurs regardless of whether the clock rate change check box is selected or not. So the question is, how do I lock the value so that it doesn't change under any circumstances?

Can someone attach or upload the ATIoglxx.dll from Omega 2.4.78 please? I've re-download Omega 2.4.78 twice on my 56k and it keeps giving me decompression errors which makes me unable to install the drivers... since during installation it asks me where is this xxx file??

Right now I just need the ATIogl.dll since this time it only prompts once unlike the first download it had errors on multiple files.

I really can't download another 15MB on my 56k - speed only about 1.5kb/s usually
Please pls pls upload or attach

Use a download manager like Getright to download the files, that will resume broken downloads and you will not have that problem again.

hi,
I actually find that downloading sensitive programs like drivers is best to download it without a download manager. Sometimes the way that download manager segments the download for resuming is not perfect and may result in corruption. My advice is try to download the driver from the links without using a download manager such as getright or others.
Hope it help.

Anything contained in the ATI Control Panel is fair game as far as I know

If I dont use a download manager... then my download would probably get broken since my connection frequently "hangs"...
