Sad 9800 Pro and DirectX

Just got a Radeon Pro off of Ebay to Replace GeForce TI4200.

New to the ATI family, and having problems with my install.

I managed to install v3.7 Catalyst drivers, but when I try to play a DirectX game such as UT2003 I get an error message that D3D Accelleration needs to be enabled.

D3D was working fine before I installed the 9800.

Anyway I tried reinstalling DX9 but still no good. When I run DXDIAG on the Display Tab Direct Draw,
Direct 3D, and AGP Texture Acceleration are all greyed out.

Any suggestions appreciated.

ASUS P4PE 2.4GHZ
WinXP Pro
Audigy 2 Sound

Thanks.

Hmm, strange one...

First thing to try is go into the control panel and on the troubleshoot tab make sure the slider is all the way to the right.

Also did you uninstall the Nvidia drivers first? And if so by what method?

EDIT: Does openGL work for you?

Oh - and welcome to the forum

Thanks Stu.

Well I got it all working - not sure what did it.

The only thing I tried for sure was to turn off Fast Writes.

Then I did a reboot (I had already rebooted before with no improvement), and all is fine.

I am still reading the forums and looking for good tips. I must say the Radeon is impressive so far.

I do have the gamma bug where after returning to the desktop after playing UT I have to open up Display panel and reset my color settings.

Are there any easy work arounds for this problem?

There is a guide somewhere explaining how to do a completely remove old drivers, i would advise that you do this by removing all references to your NVidia graphics drivers in the windows directory and especially in the registry.
I suffered a problem a few times with agp texture being greyed out and only ever seemed to solve it by re-installing DX.

it could be said that it is foolish to upgrade your graphics card (MAJOR component in your rig) without completely reinstalling your OS. Tuff enough nvidia to nvidia or ati to ati let alone nvidia to ati .... I would not expect problem free rig and gaming until windows is reinstalled.
