Hello This is my frist ATI card i just switched from a TI 4200. I formated my hard drive. so that i would not have any conflics with the old Nvidia drivers. I installed all the latest updates for my MOBo, bios, drivers ect... I have installled SP1 for Xp pro, directx 9b then CAT 3.7 with CP. It passes the directx test and i can run 3d mark just fine. but anytime i try playing any game the dame thing crashes everytime. Now i didn't fork out all this cash to get a peicer. So i tried the drivers that came with it witch are cat 3.2 it got a little more stable but still crashes. do you guys know of any tricks to get this card to run right . i havent tried cats 3.4 or 3.6 yet. and is there a bio's update that you know of for the vid card?

Dude, just because the card came in a new shrink-wrapped box, it doesn't mean it's not broken. The card could've suffered some kind of physical damage during its shipping to a warehouse or something could've gone wrong. Otherwise, why would there be warranty options for all products??

when the games crash what errors do you get? if you have winXP set it to not auto reboot on errors. does it go to blue screen? crash to desktop? what?

and can you loop 3dmark overnight with no crashes?

It always just freezes . And i would say no i could not run 3d mark all night with out it freezing. But havent tried it. Your also right the card mabey broken im just in denial i dont want to have to put up with sending it back

whats your PSU? have you readings to the rails?

Raise the agp voltage to 1.6v and see if it helps, it has for a few. Also it might be a bad card although that is pretty rare.

it's a cheap 500w. Readings to the rails? One thing i dont like about my mobo is it's bios are real basic no advanced option at all. All i can really change is the CPU clock, PCI clocl and AGP clock.

Not sure how intel boards work man. But AGP voltages are usually 1.5v, 1.6v, 1.7v, 1.8v. Default is 1.5v bud

lol, I totally misunderstood your above post, sorry man. But yeah, just because it says 500w doesn't mean it's a good one. If MBM shows everything in the red zone that's probably it; Too many overlook the most important part in a PC which in my opinion is the PSU. Btw, what's it reading for the +12v line?

jumps from 1.9v to 6,48v the -12.00v drop dowm to 1.09v up to 1.66v. They all look really unstable. Man and i though i got a good deal on my 500w PSU only $17.00

Like my new baby the 9800 PRO Yeah i didnt fork out $450 for the dame thing just to fry it. Funny i can fork out $450 for a video card but go cheap on the PSU wtf was i thinking. Im really not a n00b. Ive just been in the darkages of video cards call Nvidia land where they dony need more than 300w of power.

Get you a good 350W or 400W name brand PSU. I would go with sparkle myself or maybe antec or enermax.... Just go pick one up locally now though if you can to test and confirm it is the PSU (which 99.9% sure seems to be the problem mr. $17 PSU ) Then if it is order a good one from newegg or some place and return for refund the one you buy local.

Seems ok, but I recommend one with atleast 20A on the +12v line just to be safe. If you could do the $10 extra for the Sparkle psu it'd be better, but this one should work fine

I've never heard of "raidmax" ... of course that doesn't mean much

anyhow, buy local so if it DOES NOT HELP you can take it back hassle free

Yeah i though about that but im in a small hick town and all they have really is staples and they want $89.99 for a antec 400w . I could return it but still i have to come up with $89.99 Ill figur it out thanks for all your help guys

have you tried thoroughly cleaning out all old driver stuff? ie driver cleaner or long old fashioned method? then reinstalling?

you're right, it doesn't make sense that 3.4 works fine and then upgrading to 3.7 now you get locks. Though either way I would buy a very, very solid PSU...

OK this is all what i tried today. i went to staples and got a 300w antec PSU all they had was 300w . I put it in and it still didnt work.
So i went to wrk and grabed my office computer just so i could try my video card out and see if it's the video card. Card worked very well even using the cat 3.7's Ok so i looked in the case at the PSU it is ony a 250w . so we now know it's not the PSU. even though im still getting a solid 400w psu cuss i cant go wrong there Next i pulled thew ram out of my mashine and switched it with the ram of the other computer. no go thwere eather. so we now know its not the ram. then i pulled every device out of my tower to make sure there are no irq conflices. still no go there. Now it's down to this mobo. i checked every setting all good , fast writes off , running agp 8X ..... wait the other computer is only agp 4x awww ha . i switch my card to agp 4x and now it is running stable with the 3.7 drivers and with fast writes on . I just order the 400w antec dual fan PSU 2 min ago just in case. Now the trick is getting my mobo to handle this card in 8X mode. Cuss my 3d mark scores are still only in the 14000's . I think i mite get new mobo. you guys have any recomendations on a p4 board , thats run agp 8x ddr-ram that runs at least 333 mhz ata-133 , usb 2.0 and has bio's that i can tweak setting like agp port voltige and cpu ,ram ?


Mind that i did format my hard drive and installed , XP , SP1 DX9b, agp 1.16b drivers, new bios and d/l evey cat driver since 3.2
