omegas slow with aa & af

I've had problems with the latest omegas. When I switch on AA or AF I get a huge performance decrease. I tested the same games with the latest cats and all is well again.

Games affected are Homeworld 2, BF1942 and Jedi Academy. I had no such problems with Sim City 4 which I also play regularly.

my spec

P4 2.4b
512Mb Corsair Twinx
Gigabyte GA8INXP Granite bay board.
Built by ATi radeon 9800Pro
SB Audigy 2 Platinum.
480watt Antec PSU with 2xMaxtor 120GB SATA drives in RAID 0.

I didn't notice the slowdown at all- I tested them in Jedi Academy and got good results. Also tested CoD and MOH Breakthrough demo- and didn't see slowdown- I wonder if your install get meesed up somehow? Maybe smartgart didn't do it's test properly after the install or something? Did you compare before and after (driver) in Aquamark w/ full AA and AF? That might tell you something- Hmmm

Tried re-installing both. The last time I took the omegas off, I was about to go into safe mode to run DC but instead of booting to the BIOS, the machine starting beeping furiously and I got a message to say the power connecter wasn't connected to my 9800. I rebooted again and all was well. I know the power supply is up to the job and the cables hadn't been touched. Very wierd.

Not true at all. I easily get 40-55 FPS and the lowest being 29, this is all maxed out, 2xAA and 8xAF...all this on my wee 9600 NP . That to me isnt slow since i had a GF4 420mx before lol

I'm using 4xAA and 16xAF with all settings maxed out (except complex shadows)- and getting very playable framerates- from a smooth 35fps all the way to 85 or so fps, looks great. 9700pro @ 340/320

I only have the problems in j.a. if the resolution is set to higher than 1024x768. I don't get this in JKII though.

nope.

I tried a fresh install of windows tonight and installed the omegas first. I had even worse problems with homeworld. the game pratically stopped with horrible artifacts and polygons all over the screen. I checked I wasn't overclocking anything and I wasn't so I took the omegas off and put the cats back on. All probs dissapeared with the cats. This is damn frustrating.

On by default mate along with 8x AGP. Tried turning them off as well and lowering the AGP to 4x. Still no joy.

Absolutley fine, blistering performance. but as soon as I go to 2x AA or AF then the slowdown starts. If I go up to 6xAA and 16x AF, that is when I get the artifacts and random polygons. Its exactly the same effect you get when overclocking the video card too high.

Nah, I'm just gonna stick with the cats. I don't like playing with the AGP voltage. Especially on my lovely 9800Pro.

hmm, this is a bit odd as well. I just did a comparison between omegas and the regular catalyst 3.7 in planetside, and I do experience slow performance. Although I'm still sticking with omega, the regular 3.7s are a bit faster on my 9700 Pro. (BBATi;samsung 2.8ns)

Tried the 1.6v - no joy. Tried 1.7 - Still no joy.

Interestingly I get the same problem in Chrome as well. I'm not sure if these games are opengl or D3D. D3D I think. Not sure if this affects one or the other or both.
