I don't want to see you guys who doesn't know well about hex editing & DOS command prompt.... sufferring from any problems....
this is the trick --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ATII2KAG.INF "RADEON 8500/RADEON 8500LE " = ati2mtag_R200,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_514c&SUBSYS_003a100 2 "RADEON 8500/RADEON 8500LE" = ati2mtag_R200,PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_514C&SUBSYS_013A100 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- everythin here is at your own risk!!! remember! changing bios can rob your right to get A/S the latist ver. of RadEdit is 1.1 & It support changing vendorID.. BUT! this is incomplete cause the retail driver checks also Device ID & subsys ID RadEdit 1.1 wouldn't change the subsys ID from the bios so.. this is it! what U need is RadEdit 1.1 & 0.96 at : http://www.radeon2.ru/radedit.html http://www.radeon2.ru/bios/util/radedit/radedit11.zip http://www.radeon2.ru/bios/util/radedit/radedit096.zip 1. run RadeEdit 1.1 & load "Current" bios which is in Ur Radeon 8500 save it! ...like "original.bin" (in case U fail to flashing... or ...) 2. changing vendor ID to 0x1002 <== this is important 3. save again as "retail.bin" 4. run any HexEditor of your choice & load "retail.bin" 5. find "02 10" <== which means the Vendor ID U changed at step 2. the first search is at 0x0070 of 0x0074 & it's like "02 10 36 01" for me the latter 2byte is the subsys ID so change it to "3A 01" 6. find "02 10" again.. this time it's different from case by case.. cause the bios title & ver info... etc. is different anyway.. You'll see something like "02 10 xx xx 4C 51" "02 10 36 01 4C 51" was mine.. got it? "Vendor ID, subsys ID, Device ID" change subsys ID to "3A 01" (if you search "02 01" one more you'll see "02 10 4C 51"... ) 7. save the result as "retail.bin" 8. not yet.. be patient... you need to change the checksum.. now its time for radEdit 0.96 run this & load "retail.bin" you just edited "Update Checksums" save as "retail.bin" again now flashing with your RETAIL bios..... this works for me.. I changed my driver to Built by ATI... Good luck for you!!! |

I found out that RadEdit 0.96 has a problem while loading recently released 7008 BIOS
Here is the solution.. RadEdit 0.98 has same option as 0.96 (calculate checksum & update it).. U can get RadEdit 0.98 at here : http://www.radeon2.ru/bios/util/radedit/radedit098.zip don't forget to save again after "update checksum" & make sure U prepared your original bios back up |

I have OEM 8500 128m video card
any of the retail BIOSes .. like 1009 7004 7005 7006 wouldn't work on my card I just see some strange screen after booting... so I tried to change the vendor ID of my own bios. BUT it didn't work.... I couldn't install BBA drivers. now with this subsys ID changing... I CAN INSTALL ANY DRIVER without editing inf file..... BBA? PBA? whatever! This is the point of changing bios: "doesn't have any problem with installing ANY driver" I know lots of people with 8500 128m users have same problem... cannot find proper retail bios.. Vendor ID changing wouldn't work. This trick is very useful for them not for the one who has a reference-like card(though this is OEM) which accept any of the retail bioses |

"RADEON 7500" = ati2mtag_RV200, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5157&SUBSYS_013A1002"
as U see in "atii2kag.inf" Vendor ID is 1002 Device ID is 5157 Subsystem ID is 013A(1002) so check Device ID is 5157(= 57 51 in HEX bin), change subsys ID to 013A (= 3A 01 in HEX bin) RadEdit doesnot seem to support "reconstruct 7500 bios" what I'm sayings is... maybe.... U have only 1 method to back up Ur bios (of the 7500) & it is using the flashing tool like "flashrom -s 0 backup.bin" one more thing to check is some flashing tool works only for 8500. U need to find proper flashing tool for 7500 But.. What I recommand is TRY RETAIL 7500 BIOS ready for U.. This trick I posted is for someone who has a card which doesn't accept any retail bioses. The best choice for all ATI user is FLASHING RETAIL BIOS |

Ah~ I have to tell you this
one of my friends using MARK 7500 (likly to be early PowerColor RV200(7500)) which is impossible to use retail bios did like what I posted... change subsys ID (device ID was already 5157) The result is satisfiable.. no problem with installing BBA driver.. Good luck! FiatluX |

Get them HERE!
A couple of notes: I will IN NO WAY be held responsible if you screw your card!!! The 7004 BIOS is the dump of the original BIOS of my Retail 8500 (275/275 NTSC) 64MB card. The 7008 BIOS is, I believe, a Saphire Tech reference BIOS. I modded the Vendor ID and substrings to reflect it as being a "Built BY ATI" card. It is also 275/275 NTSC. The 7008 BIOS works great on my 64MB 8500 Retail card, and has ended my infinite loop problem entirely. I don't know if TV-out works, since I don't use it. I also ran into a problem when reinstalling Windows XP with this BIOS, where it would go to a black screen during install setup. To remedy this, either flash to the 7004 BIOS before reinstall of XP, or get a cheap PCI card to use when installing XP, then swap it for the 8500. Good luck!

As soon as Omega uploads new 9700 BIOS and new Radedit, I will try to do the same for 9700 (modding Sapphiretech).

Has anyone used RadEdit 1.1 under Windows XP - Progam loads but I can't load current BIOS - Probably access to the BIOS is protected by Windows XP?
I wish his website had alittle more English information. What is the latest BIOS for the Radeon 8500LE - my Sapphire 8500LE 128MB has 7.008 dated 06/11/02 (or 02/06/11 in YY/MM/DD format) ?? |
