call of duty prob.

hey guys...In cod I had no probs in the demos, however in the full game when you get killed or take "shell shock" you get thie cool motion blur effect. In the full game when I die or get near an explosion the motion blur doesnt work properly. I get a kindof negative pixel look. Wierd considering the 2 demos worked fine.....

ati 9800
using both omegas 3.7 and 3.8 drivers

There are some problems with the game (the demos anyway) and 3.8 drivers. some people had hard locks others had corruption, this was resolved in some instances by turning off VPU recover, but I found on my brothers 9600 pro the only way to get the game to work properly was to revert to 3.7 Cat.

With the Demo's I had the same problem with the 3.8's and had to resort to using the 3.7 driver's, now everything works fine.

I wonder if ATI would have any comments on the possible compatability issues with the 3.8 drivers and Call of Duty......seeing as how this game has a huge chance of being just as popular as HL2. And was released to the public yesterday according to there website, and also appears to be in some stores today. I sure hope the Cat team see's this thread

Yes, go back to the 3.7 set.Seems random lockups are going on with the 3.8's.
Also, i see what your talking about value. It started happening to me when i would die.I dont get it during a shellshock. And only happens during single player, which i still have not played much of, im sooo into the MP part!

I got the same prob with the game and my 9800pro. The blur effect/shock effect looks like it goes to 8/16 bit colours =/

This is the first gfx problem i have encountered with my card.

Well I had those gfx problems too with the 3.7's when I upgraded to 3.8 they were gone.

Also I had the sudden lockups and other weird crashes, for me the solution was to force the card to use ingame the same Hz Frequency as my desktop, so in this case 100Hz, after that I didn't had any lockups, crashes or VPU recovery's what so ever.

Mr. Freeze

Hey guys,

Thought I'd put in my 2 cents. I basically have tried all of the suggestions offered here. I only tried Omega 3.8, 3.7, 3.6, and 3.2 not the regular ati cat. Always a freeze up after about 5 minutes of play. The game plays and sounds incredible while it's working but even after turning off the EAX (sometimes causes problems) and setting all the sliders to the "optimum" levels it still has a problem freezing. I turned off the VPU recovery but all that seemed to do is to keep the game from crashing to a black screen and has it just freezing instead. It's still a really new game so if it is a bug I hope they patch it soon or if it is the driver figure out what the problem is. Just before playing this I'd been playing Max Payne 2 for two weeks with the same 3.8 setup. Smooth as silk without so much as a hiccup. Always seems to be something. Guess I'll just keep an eye on the forums to see what suggestions come along. GLAZZMAN

I played through the two demos just fine on my 8500. I've tried playing the first demo on my new 9600 Pro and I'm getting random lockups, and then the VPU Recovery programs kicks in.

So far, this is the only thing that's caused the VPU Recovery to come into play.

EDIT: I installed Omega's latest 'leaked' drivers and haven't had any further trouble.

Using a Radeon 9700 Pro and Omega's 3.7 drivers, I also got these strange 8 bit looking motion blur effects. The demos worked without any problems. Strange stuff.

Freeze up

Just an update to my post above. I've now also tried installing the new Omega 2.4.96b. No Luck. Freeze, freeze, freeze after 5 min. of play. If I have the VPU Recovery enabled the game will freeze then go to a black screen then the sound will resume and you can hear yourself moving around (the controls still work!) but the screen stays black. If VPU is disabled then it's just FREEZE and that's it. I even tried a suggestion to set all the frame rates to 60FPS (In the card properties for the moniter as well as in Refresh lock.). After searching other sites it is quite apparent that this is not an isolated problem. Alot of people are having the same problem here. Maybe Cat 3.9? GLAZZMAN

There was a similar discussion going on in our gaming forum about this ........you are right it isnt an isolated problem by any stretch of the imagination. From the forums I visit and of course the best one (this ) its apparent there are problems with Cat 3.8 running this game.

These are a few of the problems so far (im ignoring those which make no sense and are obviously posted by people who arent sober). VPU recover causing hard locks when "on", either after a few minutes or immediately, this doesnt appear to be affecting everyone but too many people are reporting it as a problem so it cant be ignored. In alot of cases even turning OFF VPU recover will not help so people are having to revert to Cat 3.7 to play this game, not really a very wonderful course of action, as its been well noted the IQ with 3.7 isnt in the same league as 3.8.

I have also had a chat with a few guys on other sites who have stated their problems have stopped when they turned off fast writes, lowered AGP to 4x from 8x and even one dude who says he called in a witchdoctor to exorcise his card. (yeah ok the last one I made up).

Lets hope ATI issue a hotfix or a driver update to fix the mess with this game its one of the biggest games out there and im reading alot of comments from pissed off ATI users, its not like this game is "ernie coats fly fishing".

Aint the problem with cod only in the FULL version, not the demo?
I have played both on my 9800pro 3.8cat and had no problems whatsoever.
Now im using the 3.9 and still no problems, no lockups.I have vpu inabled and fastwrites ON (also in bios).

Great game!

STAB is on a distinguished road

Well i had a hard lock too that came up on boat before boarding the German warship. it would hardlock all the time and i was not able to play at all.

Then i noticed at rage3d a link to a forum that had a solution.
goto c:\program files\call of duty\main\config.cfg

open it with notepad and do the following.

# set truform_tess to 0
# set ati_fsaa_samples to 16

and add the following 2 lines.
seta r_ext_texture_filter_anisotropic "1"
seta r_skip_auto_config "1"

Disable Fastwrites(if you havent all ready).
also disable vsync on the desktop before playing the game, as well as inside the game.

the above did it for me and all is fine now(using omega's 3.9 beta a)

I had a problem w/ stuttering pretty bad, but didn't have any lockups at all.

After I found these adjustment on a COD forum, which are fo the lockup problem in 3.8, my game smoothed right out- the only thing I changed is the .cfg settings, all my v-card settings were already as mentioned here except for truform.

I also had the stuttering problem w/ the 3.9's - and these settings helped out 100%. Give them a try, you can always change back if you don't like them.

----located in C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\Main\-----

**set truform_tess to 4

**seta r_ext_texture_filter_anisotropic "1"

**ati_fsaa_samples to 16

**seta r_skip_auto_config "1"

[Control Panel Changes]

--Okay, now we're going to modify your control panel settings.

**As above, disable vsync both in-game AND in your OpenGL options (if not already).

**Enable Ansiotropic Filtering and set the sample rate to 16x

**Disable *ALL* VPU Recover options

**enable truform in display drivers

I added this to the config.cfg the first day I got the game- it keeps it at 85hz (or whatever you want)

seta r_displayrefresh "85" - then the game won't try to go back to 60hz all the time...
