Great Driver!! I couldn't find it anywhere on ATI's site. Shame on them for not making it easier to download. They shouldn't be so stingy with their bandwidth.
I have Windows 98 Lite with the Windows 95 Explorer Shell installed on my Compal (Toshiba Tecra S1) notebook. I use this as an emergency OS in case something goes wrong in Linux or Windows XP. I also use it to test software sometimes. Very small, very stable, very quick, very cool. Just a few problems. My "Display Properties" button has disappeared from the Control Panel. If I right click on the Desktop I don't get any response. There is no way I can change my desktop settings. It was working before when I had the Radeon 9000 driver (without Mobility, which Win98 didn't like very much) installed, and then it kind of stopped. Thus my impetus for going out and finding the right driver, thinking that would bring it back. Still, it hasn't returned. Any ideas where it is or which files might be missing that is causing it to not start? The thing with 98Lite is that they remove a lot of the .DLL and .INF files to make the installation smaller. Just hoping someone can tell me: "Oh yeay! You need that DLL!" I list the ones that have been removed below! Also, since I don't have ActiveX on this system (in 98Lite) can you please tell me which drivers / files I can remove to make the installation even that much smaller? I like to keep it around 80MB. Here are the DLL files that I removed. Let me know if it might be a INF or a CPL that is causing the Display Properties not to come up and I can post those as well: Deltree c:\windows\Options Deltree c:\windows\Media Deltree c:\windows\Help Del c:\windows\inf\mdm*.inf Deltree c:\windows\Applog Deltree c:\windows\Command Deltree c:\windows\sysbckup These files removed from Windows/System ATMADM.EXE CDPLAYER.EXE DIRECTCC.EXE HH.EXE NET.EXE NET.MSG NETCONN.EXE NETDDE.EXE NETDET.INI NETH.MSG NLSFUNC.SYS PMRES.EXE PMTS.EXE progman.ini REGEDIT.EXE SCANREG.INI SCANREGW.EXE SCRIPT.DOC ASD.EXE WINHELP.EXE WINHLP32.EXE WRITE.EXE WUPDMGR.EXE Does Anything look familiar like it might be causing this problem? I have tried clicking on Run and typeing 'desk.cpl' and 'regsvr32 desk.cpl' to no avail. I have also disabled a couple of files in the Windows 98 Startup because I don't like things running in the background. After I disabled the files I uninstalled the ATI drivers, reinstalled the Omega drivers, and I got a message saying that Windows was unable to load the ATI Control Panel. Except that my problem is that there shouldn't have to be any TSRs running in the background to set the Display Properties: "They are just gone!!!"; the icon, the function, everything! The good news is my system has the right resolution now! Thanks, Charlie |
