I think the old school 6043's were the best performance/stability, but the new Omega/Red 6071's are my 2nd

6071 because:

(a) They are the fastest for me on my rig
(b) offer that best visual quality
(c) ummm.....because they are the newest

Default Post I'd go with

The Cyborgs 7.02 rev 43's because they work well for me with very few lock-ups, etc. So i'm sticking with them for now.

XFree86 4.2.0 - because it works

Dang - wrong forum.

Erm - 6071 beta (not cyborgs or omegadrives). Reason? In the vain hope that DVD playback is fixed for my mobo under WinXP (works fine in Win2k on same hardware)

Uber there is a thread I started on Rage that I might bring to here as well

basically it deals with the 8500 under XP Pro

that seems to be the OS that hardware acceleration is broken on

My rig will do the HW accel under every OS but XP Pro

Weird eh?

Right now I'm using the Plutonium X71s on my 8500DV, but I honestly don't notice much difference in performance from the other drivers I use. I'm sure it's just because I'm only using a fraction of what my video card is capable of (with my lowly 700@870 MHz Celeron holding back my system). Once I do some upgrading, I'm anticipating a healthy boost in performance.

Yeah - I noticed the poll about DVD under XP - was that it?
Anyway, the more people who have this problem moan about it, the sooner ATI will fix it. Especially when it involved people who know their beans (like you and me for instance)

Oh well - it works using PowerDVD in software and Xine software playback (Linux player)

Well Killersneak for me LOL (just joking)
I haven't test the new Omega/Cyborg driver, but the 6071 works great (at least for me) just some problems running NitroGl screensavers that just freezes my computer.... But other than that, normal, and with the best 2d quality I've seen...

Heh, I actually tried one of Killersneak's driver sets. It was pretty good. I like the new Plutonium/Omega set better though; the last Plutonium set was really good as well, but it didn't have fast texture compression or S3TC enabled. Being into both SS:SE and UT, that just didn't fly.

Urrr - I actually kinda like need Pro. I work from home sometimes and I'm a software dev/web dev so using Home is like driving a mini when your a F1 (or Indy or ur american) driver by trade.

But hey, software playback works - looks like shit compared to hardware playback but hey - better than nothing. Hopefully the OSS guys can get the Theater chip working in Linux - I rekon they can get it working faster than the ATI guys can fix the problem

my two favorites:
most impressive 3d quality with stability - omega's 6071s
best performance with framerate in mind - the 9021s (back when i was using 98)

6043 for Win XP and 9031 for Win 98. Going to install the newest Omega/Cyborg drivers today and test them out to see how they stack up. <edit> I really like the Omega/Cyborg drivers based on 6071. I have been comparing the Omega/Cyborg drivers to the current Omega Win 98 drivers and have noticed that I get much better frame rates in Win XP with Nascar 2002 then in Win 98. I'm also not noticing slowdowns like before. Went ahead and reinstalled Win 98 and I am getting the same results. Seems ATI is focusing on Win XP drivers and that is good. That is impressive enough for me to make the final transition to XP.

Omega 2.4.43's for XP. Best IQ, stability, performance both gaming and benchmark.
Haven't tried the latest Omega's, as I see people are rating them slightly lower than the 2.4.43's.
And the word on the stock Cat 3.6's sounds almost abysmal.
