HELP: Unable to install Omega/Catalist Drivers

I though I'd see more of these, but there's probably something unique about my setup.... Here are the basics:
XP Pro SP1
GigaByte GA-7VAXP
PowerColor RADEON 9800 SE
AMD XP 2200+

Previous card was Geforce4 TI4200, worked fine. Trying to intall the Omega (2.4.87 or 2.4.96) or Catalist 3.9 drivers fail with a message claiming I need to run in Standard VGA mode (probably can't overwrite some previous ati DLL or something).

Thing is, when I first booted with the new card, the display driver already was the default (from the VGASave service). After the installation failed, I tried to reboot in safe mode and retry the installation, but I got nothing instead (blank screen). Trying to load XP in regular mode now fails with a black screen as well (after the logog, before the login screen). This means that the VGASave driver didn't kick in, and now I was left in the dark, literaly.

I eventually managed to reinstall the GForce4 drivers (by learning the required keystrokes on a laptop that was near by...), and was able to login to XP in normal mode.

Current Status:
Can't login in Safe Mode: VGASave still doesn't work properly; Starting the Recovery Console and manually repairing/enabling the VGAService doesn't change anything. vga.sys & vga.dll are intact.

Still can't install Omega/Catalyst.

Anyone, please...

Have you tried running drivercleaner after removing the old Nvidia drivers and then installing the ATI drivers with your new card?

Yeah, I did...

Problem is, after cleaning the drivers, following boots end up with the blank screen, and I have to guess my way around until I manage to blindly install the GForce Drivers again so I can see something.

In other words, if I clean the current drivers and/or place the Radeon card and boot, I don't get any display... I first need to solve this issue before I can continue...

I tried installing the ATI drivers with the GForce card plugged in, thinking the next time I boot I'll just switch between the cards and everything will work (like it is for the GForce drivers, that can be installed regardless of the currently installed card). But, the installation program just runs for long enough to show the splash screen, and then bails... Manual installation of the ATI drives via the Device manager or Display driver update is not possible while the GForce is plugged in.

Smilie Got it to work, finally

Ran another driver cleaner, and used the remote desktop from my laptop to install the drivers and bypass the blank screen problem (still exists in Safe-Mode/Fallback VGA).

And yeah, I ran the latest 4in1 to rule out the AGP incompatibility issues.

Thanks.
