Re: Driver installation

if not cancel the installation then give this a try. Always create a system restore point first. 1) Download driver cleaner http://www.hardwareheaven.com/cleaner/ then install. 2) Open driver cleaner then find the option "cab cleaner" then use. This removes the old 27.42 drivers from sp1. (if ati cards skip to option 3) 3) Remove control panel first don,t reboot, then drivers from add/remove option. 4) when asked to restart do so but when restart hold f8 then select "safe mode" from options given. 5) When in safe mode open driver cleaner for a second time then select "NVIDIA” then press clean. This removes any INF files windows leaves behind. 6) When complete reboot to normal, if cab cleaner is successful you should get the add hardware window instead of installing above drivers (27.42). 7) Cancel add driver window unless it’s an unzipped & locate file type driver. If it’s .exe type go to #8 7a) Disable any anti virus software.(only do so when offline) 8) Locate & install NVIDIA or ati drivers. Reboot and things should be fine. Ps after option 5 you might be worth reinstalling dx9.0b and the latest chipset drivers for your mobo. |

As far as I know, the new drivercleaner 2.6 should stop this from happening. This time I didn't remove the uninstall util and all went ok. I can't really offer any solution as the problem has already occured but I think the new DC is the solution. I ended up rebuilding the OS as it was the easiest option for me at the time. |

I had that problem when going from 3.7 to 3.8.I just rebooted and tryed again and it worked fine.Did you install the control panel straight after the display driver or did you reboot first?

if it has try an manual install.through hardware devices. other option is uninstall from system proprieties don't reboot then find new hardware then see if you can install the basic vga driver it is asking for. |

I have the same problem...
I used DC 2.0 after unistalling omega's driver (based on 3.8) I then tried to install cat 3.9 and i got that vga msg... I then d/led 2.6 and tried removing ati, i tried installing omega's (based on 3.9) and tried all kind of things, nothing worked... I couldn't install the VGA adapter since there is no driver in windows.. For now i'm stuck with no option to install the vga/radeon nor the monitor.... This seems incredibly stupid to me... nothing works, not even windows update. I'm not sure what caused this problem, DC , ATi or omega.. Any help would be really thankfull :-/ |

Legacy Problem??
Would I be correct that those having this problem are using older Radeon cards? Seem to remember a post somewhere that nothing earlier than 7200 would install, I have a 7200 and 3.9 will NOT install (neither ATI nor OMEGA), 3.8 has no problem at all.
Related to the ALL In WONDER install problem? Or just a cunning plan to force a hardware upgrade? |

....welll.... btw the sounds of it.... i had this exact problem... just for some strange reason.... (this has happened multiple times)... that when uninstalling the drivers.... and then trying to install them... you get this message which you CAN'T get around....DH drivercleaner.... a restore point wouldn't work...neither would a driver rollback... i tried everything right down trying to setup a different video card... and manually removing every bloody inf or oem reference file..... nothing....even a windows xp pro install patch over wouldn't do it..... i HAD to format.... reinstall..... i'm just hopeing this isn't the case...but this just might be....

Well, it seems as if i'm luckier then u guys :-)
I was able to reinstall WinXP over my current installation, and afterwards to install cat 3.9 (ATi version) BTW I have Radeon 8500 and AMD athlon XP... Well, good luck to all others who are having this prob, I really hope it's not ATi who are responsible for this... but who knows? |

Well, not quite a reinstall, but ran "Autopatch XP 4.0 Gold" to reapply SP1, RU1 and various hotfixes, ran Omega's version of Driver Cleaner as well as Driver Cleaner 2.6, cleaned the registry of anything "ATI" and still can't install.
Looks like I'll have to wait to see what 3.10 brings; I'm not motivated by 3.9 to vaporize the system. |

I have the same problem,too
I can't install the omega drivers because of the message "no vga drivers" etc. while installing. The strange thing is that I can install the normal catalyst 3.9 without any problems. But the omega(on cat. 3.8) doesn't work, so it must be the omega driver... I hope that the new omega driver for WIn9x/ME comes soon...so I can mod my 9800se to a 9800pro BTW. I've used driver cleaner too but my problems got even worse (i had to reinstall my Win)Well guys... plz hurry with the new omega driver 4 Win ME

This is how I solved the problem:
1. Uninstall old drivers using the right method (driver cleaner, etc...) 2. Install Omega setup but not the drivers 3. User the Driver Mod utility on the Omega drivers folder 4. Install omega drivers by running the setup file 5. If the control panel is not there, download and install the current ATI control panel on top of omega's Omega says that this might overwrite some of his tweaked settings but you still get the omega driver |

Finally
Only way I finally got a 3.9 install was to use the GL 'fixed' composite version from ATI (simply editing the .INF didn't work for me). Now, if Omega will issue based on it.....
