Mass problems

Just bought a radeon 9600pro and it seem to have installed fine. Im using the latest omegas but when i start up c&c generals and get to the main menu it freezes proceeded by a low screeching sound, the same thing in cs, i can join and play games normally but the second i open the menu and try to check my options , it freezes at the screech happens. Anyone know whats wrong? or did i not install the card properly?

What card did you have in there before? An NVidia card?

A few things. Did you use Drivercleaner before installing the newest drivers? What Driver are you running (3.8, 3.9)? Do you have the latest DX9? Is the game up to date? Do you have Fastwrites turned on or off?

I didnt use a driver cleaner , i didnt think it was necessary with ati products i just uninstalled old ones b4 installing new card. Ive tried the 3.8 , 3.9 and latest omegas to try and get them to work, currently using the newest omegas. using DirectX 9.0 (4.09.0000.0900). My games are up to date ( counter-strike and c&c generals ) but i had no prob till i installed the 9600pro. And i dont use fastwrites ( off ) because my mobo doesnt support.

you might try updating to Direct X 9b (4.09.0000.0902).....also when I hear people metion that squeal I also tend to look at the audio device, perhaps move it to a different pci slot, also make sure the 1st pci slot beneath the AGP slot is not used.

Is your card sharing a IRQ with any other device?
Always insure your card(9600) has its own IRQ.

Tony.

Did you take the modem out or just move it as you stated? If not in use you should take it right out of there. - Put it in a drwer somewhere- not taking up IRQ's and stuff in there.

I had the exact same problem as you mate and it nearly caused me throw my card out the window.
One thing i did solved the whole thing....
turn the fast writes on. If you read Omega's driver install notes he states that all 9600 pro's need to have this feature on. I find it hard to believe that your mobo doesn't support it. have you had a good look around the BIOS?
Only reason i am pushing this is because it solved all of my problems. Hope this helps mate.

Same thing with me too

I also have a 9600 pro and i get the same thing in UT. It seems to play fine for about 3-5 mins then my comp goes to a blank blue screen with an accasional squeel. But whenever i try to turn on fast write and asks to reboot, it just shuts it off every time and i dont know how to get around this prob. Been driving me up the wall for over a month now. Some1 please help!

Dude, it apears that your board doesn't support fast writes from that jpeg. However i did notice that it supports side band addressing.

Interesting that. My old Asus Nvidia card hated side band addressing and i had to turn it off in order to get the card working right. not saying that's your problem but it can't hurt to try it. Turn it off and see if it does the trick.

Hope this helps mate.
