I have a Dell Inspiron notebook computer (detailed specs below) and it seems to run all games perfect. Until recently, I was running on the stock drivers that came with the computer. Overall never had any problems, except with Jedi Knight II. Jedi Knight II runs like CRAP even at 640x480....and the shading is all messed up. Like in the opening cimamic the shading is sharp and jagged instead of nice and smooth. My friend has a Dell Inspiron exactly like mine except 1.0 Ghz...and his Jedi Knight II runs perfect in 1024x768 with all the details maxed....and shading is nice and smooth.
I figured it was a driver problem so I upgraded to the omega/plutonium x1.0.71 drivers...and although it did offer a performace boast some games...it didn't help my Jedi Knight II problem! (I'm really desperate here guys. Jedi Knight II runs so bad that it's unplayable. Even if there are a handful of enemies....the frame rate DIES...yet my friend who has the almost the EXACT same specs as me runs great even with many enemies...and much higher resolution. Obviously there's a problem...and I hope it's not damage to the hardware...although unlikely since it works fine with other games...and most likely would be a driver issue. I believe he's using the latest official ATI driver....still I had problems even with the default ATI drivers..and the new omega/plutonium didn't seem to help this problem either. Let me know what you guys think! __________________________________________ Inspiron 8100 with P III 1.2 GHZ, 384 megs of ram, ATI Radeon 7500, 30 gig hard drive, DVD rom drive, and duel lith ion batteries. |

Basically, clean the registry, uninstall everything, then reinstall everything. If not, do a fresh install of your OS
I got JK2 working on a 16mb Savage4 video card, so I'm sure it's a settings problem

Setting shadows to simple and textures to high (not highest) cures 99% ok all JK2 problems

It's not a issue with the shadows. My friend who has the same exact machine as mine except 1 Ghz had his shadows maxed up.
There's actual display problems with the shading on the character's faces for me. There's no excuse for the game to run this bad on 640x480. |
