dont use overdrive, ive heard quite a few problems and it doesnt overclock the card successfully either by a large amount most times. use a manual overclocker like rage3d tweak or powerstrip.

When i tested the visiontek 9800 XT I found much higher performance from this option. good luck and welcome to DH.

THX Zardon

I Noticed that these omega drivers have a overclocking facility with them is this as good as powerstrip also i did try to load rage3d tweak but it said that the 9800XT wasnt supported

yes Todd I would agree, powerstrip has the best support for the XT, rage3d tweak is good too, and if you arent going to pay for powerstrip it will get irritating with the popup. Personally I prefer powerstrip though, especially its custom resolution support and other goodies.

Snakebiteuk, my recommendations to you are this.

Turn off VPU recover and options (for now until a later set) and turn off overdrive, and get yourself powerstrip or rage3dtweak.

To test your overclocking findings, this is a good way.

Load up 3dmark2003, set your clocking options to 20mhz more on the core 425mhz(ish), and run nature test several times, watching closely for sparklies, dots, and any other corruption. if this runs successfully. go into the overclocking and up again by 5mhz... keep repeating until you see graphical abnormalities and then revert to the last settings. some XT cores hit up to 480mhz, and some as little as 430mhz, so its a touch and go thing here.

With ram, some of the cards wont go over 380mhz, and some hit 400-410, so id advise starting at 375mhz same procedure as above. then you will get your maximum overclocks.

I would not recommend doing that. It can or could cause a conflict. I would use one or the other. I like powerstrip because it has so much more options in it as a overall valuable tool. Such as a refresh rate force and others options.

deinstall any overclocking applications you already have installed, then install powerstrip, let it reboot and detect the clock speeds, the powerstrip site is very good for support and information so take 10 minutes and read up on it. also make sure you have the ATI overdrive option DISABLED before overclocking with powerstrip.

any problems, let me know.

Thx all for the good advice im happy with my 9800xt runing at default settings at the mo im getting 6400 on 3dmark03 and on unreal03 im hitting over 100 fps avg witch look's really good this is the first time i have tried these omega drivers all i can say is KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

P.s Is radclocker as good as powerstrip's overclocking facility. I know i said i was leaving it at default for now but i was just wandering if it is as i uninstalled powerstrip dont like pop ups.
