Evening,
I noticed the new catalyst drivers were out today and decided to update them and hit a wall: After the install package (downloaded directly from ATI's site) finished verifying and expanding the files, i was greeted with an internal failure dialog box from the installer. It said: "Error Number:0x80040707" with no description. I clicked continue and got the following error box titled severe: "Unable to load ATICIM.dll". After i clicked ok, i got an error with this message "Set failed to run installation: The remote procedure call failed." What I've tried: 1) Redownloading drivers: same problem occurs. 2) Installing an older set of drivers, which leads to the same problem (so it seems to be a windows problem). 3) Using Omega's drivers - same problem. I've looked over my rpc windows services, and everything seems as it should be (Remote Procedure Call service set to automatic). If anyone has any suggestions which might sway me from formatting, I'm listenning. Thanks for your time, Syd |

I really wish I could; I usually disable it to begin with whenever I install windows (frees up space, and supposedly improves performance). Guess from now on I'll leave it on <grin>.
Thanks for the suggestion though. |

Sorry to say it but it does sound like a fresh OS install is what may fix your problems. I turn off system restore myself but I have learned the hard way as well to make regular backups. Have you tried Drivercleaner here as a last effort?

Yeah, I went into safemode, and ran through the steps for driver cleaner + cab cleaner with no luck. Oh well, it's been five months, guess a fresh install was in order anyways; on the brighter side of things atleast I found out about a new app (being driver cleaner).

I just submitted this to ATI's website, I'm having the same problem. The only difference is I don't get the msg about remote procedure call, but I do get the first 2 msgs that you do
I really don't want to reinstall XP again so soon after the last one so I'm hoping they have another solution. If they get back to me I'll let you know ![]() You can update the drivers by doing it manually through windows manager, but it won't give you the full control panel...

Theres a thread on this over at Rage3D...2 solutions are given, one by one of the guys from ATI who post there, CatalystCatcher...Might wanna check it out.
Catcatcher's idea didn't work for me,but the other suggestion gave me at least a temorary fix ![]() http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...post1332477017

http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4300.html
or go directly to: http://support.installshield.com/kb/...icleid=q108020 I can't be sure it will help with install failures, but it can't hurt either, if you are going to re-install XP as a solution I have personally experienced installation problems and this little tip certainly fixed things up for me. BTW: Dawnrazor........ Thanks for passing the info along. |
