yes you can use the Cat 3.10 drivers; however you will probably lose any Asus specific tools that they incorporate into their driver releases

Yeah, I own an ASUS 9800XT and yes, with any other driver than ASUS v7.93 or the included driver on the cd, upon boot-up you loose your signal for 5-10seconds. Even Nordic Hardware had this problem. Eventually with ASUS 9800XTs is that the D3D and OGL Support just dies out. It locks up on every DirectX and OpenGL game. So, if you have the chance...Return it. I got myself screwed now, I have to waste $277 on a 9600XT.....(maybe)

EDIT: Here is the link
http://www.nordichardware.com/review...ndex.php?ez=12
It is at the bottom.

For the lazy, I have copied it from the site:
The Problems we encountered with ASUS software made the big picture somewhat worse. As previously mentioned SmartDoctor didn't work properly since it crashed when string up Windows and refuses to save the settings. Another problem with ASUS's card is that they doesn't like ATI's reference drivers. More correctly, it doesn't seem to like any other drivers then those on the ASUS CD. The problems with lack of compability with SmartDoctor but mainly the fact that the screen goes into standby when loading Windows and goes online again first 5-10 seconds later. Sometimes the same thing happens in Windows and also when changing resolution or initializing in any other way.

ASUS XTs do not have OverDrive, they don't support it...If you want to overclock, you have to use SmartDoctor or Rage3dTweak/Any overclocking tool.

yes, i live in a cave

i just meant that if worse came to worse then at the end of the day it is still a fast card
and yes, i to would be pissed if i bought a XT and found out i could only use specific drivers.
but he got to return the ASUS and got a built by ATi..so alls well that ends well.

Well sorry to say but I've not had one single crash in a game nor has directx or opengl simply given up and stopped working after a while. I've only installed the asus drivers once, didnt like them and have used ATI and omega ever since so the notion that only asus drivers work with teh card is nonsense.

Plus the fact that the card gave you trouble and you bought a different card which is also giving you trouble (lines when you use the overdrive tab) kinda points the finger at your end of teh line.
