??? Could it be a PSU Problem

Hi all,
I'm having a few problems with crashing in Max Payne 2, C&C Generals and 3Dmark.

It crashes back to the desktop after about 5 mins.

Could my 350 Watt Eagle power supply be the problem? It has an extra 12V plug which is also plugged to the mobo (Epox RGA nForce2)

Thanks Guys.

Sad

I'm afraid I don't know what they are?

Changed the PSU to 450 Watt but C&C still doesn't work. Cuts out after about 5 mins.

Cheers

Maybe something got screwed up when you installed the VGA Silencer, otherwise it must be drivers, maybe try reinstalling the drivers? A reformat should fix it, always does

Thumbs Down!

No such luck I'm afraid. I tried that yesterday.

I must have re-installed about 5 times since November by now and it still crashes. It's a real mind bender.

Cheers for your continuing support guys and gals.

Hmm what brand of memory do you have? Is it supported by your motherboard?
What timings do you have it set to in the bios? Some games have issues with the timings set to spd. This really does sound like a memory/timings issue.

exclamation

It could be your graphics card.
I had a same problem with my Club3d ati 9100 pro, then I bought another Club3d ati 9100 pro from a same shop and the problem "disappeared".

Thanks Guys.
Well friend being a previous owner of a 8RGA+ myself i know for a fact that those boards like most nF2 boards are powerhungry.
Unless your power supply is a true 350watt i suggest you get a bigger one.

But it may not be the problem in this case.
Apps crashing to desktop are also signs of instability in either ram or CPU.

Question : are you overclocking the cpu ??
If so have you tried a little more Vcore (just a a step up) ??
Have you tried a little more relaxed timings on the ram ?(if you have pc3200 or 2700 cas2 or 2.5 try -2.5-3-3-7 for starters) )

And one more thing: today as i went to windows update i came across a patch for "games/apps crashing to desktop" so if you havent allready ..i suggest you go and get the update cause it may help.

Also make sure you have at least service pack 1 (for XP) and latest chipset drivers (forceware) and dont forget to update directX to ver.9b.

Next time dont reinstall windows for this type of problem.....
Reinstalling windows should allways be the LAST thing we do and im suprised how some ppl just come out and suggest it like its a simple mater.

And also tell us what cpu you have and the ram ,also post a screencap pic of the epox hardware monitor so i can see the voltages

I would have to say from my experience with nforce 2 boards yes it could very well be the PSU, I recommend 400/450 PSU for those boards and you have the 9600 xt which is a power hog.

Big Grin SORTED!!!!

Hi guys!
It's sorted. I changed my PSU to a 450 Watt PSU which solved the 3D Mark Problem.

I've taken the stick of RAM out of Dimm 1 and stuck it in Dimm 3 and it seems to have worked a treat on C&C Zero Hour (5 games and not a hickup)!

Thanks soo much for your help guys wouldn't of thought about checking the RAM otherwise.

Finally after 3 months my 9600XT is working as it should! Hoorah

Cheers again guys!

Iain
