probably the same thing that happened to the 3.3's... they never came out because there were too many bugs... and I believe they were releasing new cards and R400's at the time, and didn't want to give away any secrets about the new GPU... (In the inf and dll files). I suppose that the 4.0's were tossed due to some sort of bug... ask CATALYST Maker... he probably knows.

Looks like these drivers are a great start for ATI to kick off the New Year. What a release! I have no complaints about it at all! Not a stutter in my RTCW! Played a good 1 hour and a half of it. Besides the installation mix up, all is good.

hmm, ET wont work after this , now thats bad, the only game I play and they screw it up, whats with the "they fixed the problem and will release it in the next cat", why not take ur time and fix it, after all drivers are not mission critical stuff u have to release within a deadline.

I wonder if the 4.1 have fixed the no AA issue in Rainbow Six 3 Ravenshield. If it hasn't, I'm voting a 5 again.

You have failed the attitude test
How do you know they (I presume you meant ATI) screwed it up - it may well be your end thats the problem, I think what you really meant to say is........ my game doesnt work since i installed the new ATI drivers.

Its probably your setup, conflicts perhaps with junk on your PC. So please watch your attitude with ya mouth boy!! And pay a litttle respect!! A lot of time and effort goes into these driver sets mate.

Thanks...

RTCW works..

I haven't installed ET yet since the reformat. Don't see why it wouldn't work..

I don’t know why they jumped... I thought maybe 3.11 or 4.0 it a nice to see the version jump like that but it come down to how much the really changes which I'd take from the version jump. That’s they have made some big ones

funky I know u have been around for a long time but that does not excuse ur stupidity and ur ignorance, if u take the trouble to read the wonderful release notes and check the known issues, u will see in enough clarity even for blind bats the following statement;

"Significant performance loss is noticed in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. This issue is already resolved and a fix will be available in the next CATALYST™ driver release "

I know the effort these guys put into the drivers and I want them to get applauded for it, why should they release a known problem and then be brickbatted for it.

Try this as it may work:

Remove the video card drivers
Use driver cleaner 2.7 to remove the remains of your ATI dll's
Remove ET
Reinstall the game

Then see if the game works. If it doesn’t then Let "Catalyst Maker" aware of the steps you have taken instead of accusing ATI of causing you problems. Always best to use you’re initiative and do some ground work first bud.

Well to be totally honest I ve never really had issues till this set...... It seems that vpu recover is poping up ever 3 mins ( Ati I hope you enjoy all my vpu recover emails lol .Should have 15 from me now) My card isnt o/ced I havent figured out what the issue is. I am reverting back to 3.10`s . Terry I respect your work and know that you guys cant test on every config Its just for me these drivers arnt doing that well. Guys please dont recommend I do a clean install I have done everything short of reformating. Great job on another fine release Cat Team I know you guys work hard as hell to provide the industry best drivers. Maybe I`ll have better luck on the next set.

If I can help reproduce what ever is going on let me know Ill be more than happy to.

Rig :

axp 2500+( barton)
A7n8x Deluxe
corsair XMS PC3500 C2 (2-3-3-7)
Power Color Radeon 9700 Pro
Audigy 2
Plextor dvdr 8x drive
Lite-on 52-32-52 burner
400 watt sparkle PSU
Windows XP sp1 w/ all updates

Issues:

1) VPU recover going nuts whenever doing anything from playing a movie in wmp ,powerdvd, or just surfing the web

2) 3d preformance droped accross the board. opengl and D3D

Anything I can do to help Ill be happy to.
I am also posting in the other cat 4.1 thread

I give them a 7. As to why......well.....see pic below. It has existed since the Cat 3.6's. I have reported it to ATI Feedback everytime since this problem started. recent feedback reports included my workaround that I discovered, which should tell the ATI team exactly where to look for the problem. It's not just a problem with MY system (which has been reformatted since this problem first arose, BTW) because it does it on DIFFERENT chipset motherboards and with DIFFERENT CD sets of the game with the 8500 variations we have here. None of the systems are overclocked in any way, shape or form. Cat 3.5 and older, no problems, 3.6 and newer, this problem.

Before anyone says that they are not having this problem with the game, are you using an 8500? The problem may be 8500 specific, I don't know. This is on the FULL retail version, NOT the demo. The workaround that I have been using since the 3.6's STILL works on the 4.1's and STILL causes NO problems in any other games. I find that interesting.....

I have 2600+ (333Mhz), 512Mt DDR and Radeon 9800Pro. Shouldn't that give 100fps without tweaks... I think it should. In worst parts I get only 60fps.

A lots of people have noticed very poor performance in Steam/CS1.6 with radeon cards, and there hasn't came any change to it. Hey, it's the most popular online game here! nVidia cards beats Radeon like 100-0 in CS1.6.

Otherwise Cat4.1 continues the good line that ATI has kept, I gave 9.

Hopefully Catalyst Maker reads this and I would really appreciate if he could take this CS issue to the table with Catalysts.

I've played CS long time and still I would change the game rather than my ATI Radeon. But would love if this fps issue would get better.

Does this improve COD performance even more than going from 3.9 to 3.10? If so thats a lot and I would consider downloading these, otherwise im going to wait for omega to get his release out. I haven't used a regular ATI driver since like 3.5, Omega's always have a much better looking picture and are always faster

These really smoothed out CFS3. I'm getting mid 40's on average FPS with 9800 Pro.

This game has never been so smooth and clean.

i gave them a five, cuz there is no performance gain (in fact my ut2k3 performes a bit less, about 1-2 fps on average), no stability issue (never had any problems) and they are okay but not cutting-edge!
i'm waiting for the omegas, lets see what they will do
