??? Ati stock 9800xt Temps

Hi All been using my Ati9800xt for 1 week now and I got the new 4.1 drivers. I did use the 3.10 ones for a day with no problems and the 4.10 did improve my 2003mark scores. The problem is the newer driver shows the Gpu temps which mine idle at 70c!
I mean that is high? I called Ati and asked them for a Temp ref and they don;t have any. Not even min. or max temps.
I called Ati no help? Called Antec my power supply maker of the 480 true blue i have and they say everyt hing is in spec. When I called ati to exchange the card they would not send out a card till they got mine back which is total bull. They suggested I go back to where i bought it. So i called them and they state there is an issue with the antec PS480watt. they say it is not a tru 480 and under powered. I explianed my tmewps and even took a big fan with open case and put it right on the ati card and it never cooleed? So I ordered a better power supply like they recommened and even told me i could return it. So has any one ever herd of this problem . I understand what they are saying but I thought antec was a true 480watts? Any hel pin this matter thanks

wow

At least i don't feel like im crazy . What power supply you have? The reatailer that sold me my ati 9800xt says you need a true good steady flow with these cards. Funny but no one has a correct answer yet ? Hope it comes out soon. i just installed the omega drivers seem ok but I got better performance with my 4.10 Ati drivers

I have a 430w PSU and my 9800XT runs fine. Temp. is normally around 65-70c depending on what I am doing. I am more inclined to think that your "overall" case ventilation is not sufficient. How many case fans do you have and how are they configured (how many pulling air in and how many pushing air out)?

What is your CPU temp? What is your case temp? If your computer just "Runs Hot" then your video card is not going to properly cool.

l have abit nf7-s with 3000+ with 400fsb,550 psu power,1 gig of pc3500 munhkin memory, have 7 80mmx80mm fans drawing in air and drawing out hot air, have one 120mmx120mm fan on panel right in middle ,facing my sapphire ati 9800xt with 256,so the 120mm fan blows cool air directly onto grahpic card, fan runs acording to overdrive temp gauge at 55c,high of 60c, case temp is 23c,high of 27,cpu temp of 28.5,high of 39c,also have exhaust fan on one of pci slots, have 2 hardrives ,each 150 gig in a built in case with 2 fans in each case keeping hardrives at 26-28c,till l can come up with better way to cool, this is the best l can get with this setup.another good way to cool down your 9800xt is with artic-cooler,you taske off the stock fan and the artic cooler sits where stock fan was but take up another pci slot because it has a bigger fan and exhaust bring in cool air and out hot.can get it at pc-world in euro or at overclockers.co.uk.hope this helps a little.cheers

There you have it. braino98 has enough fans to fly a small plane and the lowest he gets is 55c. I would say for the average user 60c-70c is going to be the norm.

*EDIT* Thanks for the idea braino. I never thought to swap my 80mm side fan for a 120mm. I'm off to order a 120mm fan

Wink case setup

My case has 2 intake fans in the front and 1 92mm in the back. They are thelian-li ones. Next i have a pci cooler next to the 9800xt vantec . Then i have 2 92mm Zalman fans on a ps-123 bracket one hitting thre front and one hitting the back. I also have a zalman 7000-cu for the cpu. My case temps are like 30 to 33c my cpu temps idle are 37c to under loasd 54c. I even took a big haouse fan and held it right on the card it lowered all temps and it did not budge the Ati card. I also replaced the goop on the Gpu with AS- Ceramique.
So what else I think the case can take off also if ti had wings. I do see others having the same temps now which is what i Wanted to know. I am getting a replacment card from the wholsaler that sold it to me. They were verey nice to send a advanced replacment. They are the ones that told me to try a better power supply which They will ship me and can return if it does not help . So when I get it i'll post my findings. they claim the Antec and the 800mhz bus cpu are not good enough power. This is not my saying just telling you what they said.
