Sad Major problem with Cat 4.2 and Playonline Viewer (and possibly Final Fantasy XI)

I installed the Catalyst 4.2 drivers yesterday. Everything was going fine; 3dmark2001 and a few other games ran, but when I started up Playonline to play some FFXI, the software acted as if no 2d accelerated drivers had been loaded at all. I was not able to navigate through all of the menus to get to the game, so I can't say if Final Fantasy would respond the same way. Still, this is a major issue for me. If anyone else here uses Playonline and has installed the 4.2 Catalyst drivers, please comment.

Wink

The Playonline Viewer and FFXI works fine for me running my ATI AIW 9800 Pro with Cat 4.2 and Omega's 4.2 modified been playing the game all day running Full Game Settings and DX/OGL settings maxed out and at 8x AGP so maybe try using Driverheavens Driver cleaner and installing the the drivers again?!? But just to let you know that there is no problems that I can see hope that helps!

it's not the drivers! it's the game! i ran into this with other games... ( http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthre...&postid=294209 )

you need to eather reistall the game or if it has an option to load in a safe mode you need to do that.

see certain games detect you hardware the first time it's run after that it stops, and runs with those settings you chage the driver and the game thinks you chaged hardware and panics. I got the same message in jedi knights 2 and several other games...

hope this helps...

Aha

Hey, thanks a lot. No safe-mode option for this software, so I'll have to re-install. Unfortunatly, FFXI is a nightmare installation at 5 gigs plus.... Well, hopefully it will fix the issue.

Save me Jeebus

Uninstalled Cat 4.1 drivers and CPL, uninstalled Radeon card, uninstalled PlayOnline Viewer, rebooted to safe mode, ran Driver Cleaner, rebooted, Installed Catalyst 4.2 drivers and CPL, reinstalled Playonline viewer.... the issue still remains. Sigh.

No go on DX9 Re-install... A new version of the PlayOnline software was released today by Square-Enix also, and the issue still remains. If anyone is using this software with a Radeon 9100 and the Catalyst 4.2s, please comment

No luck with my 9200 VIVO.

Test for whole night, finally down to 3.9 and problems gone.
