4.2 - brightness in quake 3 doesn't work

I just installed Catalyst 4.2 (had 4.0 before), and when i ran quake 3 everything was dark. The brightness adjuster in the game have no effect. What is wrong?

I have a Radeon 8500. Havent tried any other games yet.

Thanks for the reply. But it didn't work..

I notice when i selected to run in window, the brightness was normal, so it is only in fullscreen the brightness setting has no effect.

but, the settings work for me

I'd try reinstalling the game sionce it doent have a safe mode or trouble shooting mode tht alot of game come with now adays.

you see the first time you run a game it sets it self up to defulat acroding to your system and drivers.

with some games If you change cards or drivers the game doest work right or start at all. why becouse things have chaged that would an effect on how the game runs .I ran into a game not running a while back just had to start it from the games safe mode icon close it the open the regular game and it worked fine.

who knows it might be related to issues people are haveing... Q3 brightness works fine for me

For all Quake eng. based games try this. Put these in your autoexec.cfg:

seta r_ignorehwgamma "1"

seta r_gamma "3" use 1-3 one is darkest 3 is brightest.

By doing this the ingame slider will not work, but who needs it when you can easily just set it in the config. Works for RTCW and COD for sure. Not positive about other Q games, but it should.

yes the slider works.

but when an UT1 based game starts up with OpenGL, the brightness shorty goees up how its supposed to be, but as soon it goes to full screen, the brightness is reset to the default value. same when you minimize the game.

(it doesnt happens always but in 80-90% of startups, and it has been reported on some forums related to UT1 based games)
