cat 4.3 ut2004 gen. protection fault

i just bought ut2004.

i've been trying all day to get these general protection faults to stop occuring, browsing message boards, everything...

here is what i've done thus far

-tried cats 3.9, 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3
-tried omegas 4.2
-used software emulation for the audio
-unchecked 'use system driver' for the audio
-modified the ut2004.ini file to use opengl
-turned on/off fast writes
-uninstalled, then re-installed to another hard drive
-moved my agp acceleration from 8x to 4x
-ran adaware, and spybot (suggestion from a message board)
-added an 80mm fan to blow ontop of my video card (suggestion from a message board)
-ran windows update

i've done just about everything i can think of. exept reformat windows..

my specs
amd athlon xp2600+
768MB ram
80gb wd hdd 8mb cache
shuttle ak39/n mobo (via kt400 chipset)
lite on optical drives
hercules fortsimio III 7.1 sound
dirext x 9.0b
xp with service pack 1, and all critical updates

is anyone else having these problems?

run it as

C:\UT2004\System\UT2004.exe -safe

then, exit and try the game again, you need to do that some time especally if you chage cards or drivers, so the game engine can redetect the changes....

anything in your system overclocked at all?

its sounding like an unstable system to me

also GPF errors are usually CPU and memory related not video card.

i was getting the same problem and i fixed it very easy i uped my VCORE 1 notch and it fixed it. the problem is becuse your system is unstable CPU ext ut2004 is more cpu dependant rather then GPU so up it to fix it.

my system is not overclocked, however my ram timings are 266, and my cpu is 333. i just ordered some pc2700 ram (cruitail) and a new mobo (gigabyte with nforce2 chipset) i'm hoping that wil increase stability on the system.

Just for ha ha's, is Winamp5 running (or idle) by any chance? If it is, theres your problem.

The Giga-Byte nForce2 boards are awesome

I have the GA-7N400 Pro2 and this thing is rock solid for gaming

So if you ordered the 7N400-L, 7N400 Pro, 7N400 Pro2, etc. you should be just fine
