Ati Mobility Radeon 9200 trouble with Catalist drivers.
Hi Everybody! (Thirst Thread)
I have some problem with the new Catalist 4.3/Omega drivers on my Acer Farrari 3000 Notebook (AMD 2500+, Ati Radeon Mobiliy 9200 128MB). Everything seems to work fine and performance is nice. But I'm missing some polygons. Well, actually whole objects. In the Matrix scene in 3DMark 2001 the guns are flying in the air. I'm missing the guy holding them... Maybe some other card suffer from this problem. Maybe there are some (registery) tweaks or other setting that can help? |

I have a Ferrari notebook with the Mobility Radeon 9200 and have not noticed any gaming problems with the supplied driver, however, I have noticed that I cannot play videos on an external monitor (whilst also on the laptop display).
Do you know if the driver upgrade will fix this? |

I'm using the Catalist 4.2 drivers now. Works very nice. No problems at all with an external monitor. Do not forget to make the external monitor the primary display. Right click on your desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Displays. There are 4 symbols, 2 arrows, rectangle and a circle, beneath each display. Click on the circle to make a display active.
The Ferrari gets a little hot but I love it .

Thanks - sure, I can switch the primary display to the external monitor but then the video won't run on the laptop display. I think the problem is because the Ferrari 3000 will only display video on overlay mode on one monitor. There is not an option in the current driver settings to access 'clone mode' and 'same on all' - see pasted dialog box below.
I have just downloaded the catalyst 4.3 driver and have a Ferrari 3000, identical except for a later bios than yours. I was just about to install it this morning but now have delayed. After what you say, perhaps I should use the earlier version? Could you please tell me if you can now get the 'CLONE MODE' options with the Catalyst drivers? ATI DIALOG BOX TEXT BELOW: [COLOR=blue]"Video Overlay allows for the viewing of full-motion video on your computer. Adjusting the various sliders increases or decreases the relevant component of your video overlay window. The sliders are automatically activated during playback of any video file type that supports overlay adjustment. Otherwise the sliders are grayed out. Clone Mode Options are available under the following conditions: Your ATI graphics accelerator has dual controllers to support Primary and Secondary (Clone) displays. Your ATI video adapter has dual display functionality by providing a standard VGA connector and a digital flat panel connector such as the DVI-I connector. In either of these cases, you can access Clone Mode Options if more than one display is connected. These settings apply to video content viewed when you are in dual-controller Clone mode, and not single-display or extended desktop configurations. Clone Mode Options offers three types of Overlay Display Mode: Standard – which allows for video content to be displayed on your Primary display only. Theater Mode – which allows for video content to be displayed on your Primary and Secondary displays, with the Secondary display showing the video content in full screen. Same on all – which allows for video content to be displayed on your Primary and Secondary displays in exactly the same manner. Note Theater Mode is not available on some systems. I have an HP Pavilion zx5180. It comes is a 64MB ATI RadeonMobility 9200.
I installed the newest omega drivers last night and it crashed in the middle of the game. It did the exact same thing with the original manufacturer drivers. Any ideas? I did print out the system BIOS setting on omega's site and am going to try some tweaks there. --joshman |
