Hi,
I own a Shuttle SN45G barebone with an AMD 3000+ XP (FSB 400) and a Radeon 9800 pro board. Sometimes when I want to boot up my system the screen stays black for about 30 seconds after the ram check has passed an then Windows seems to boot up normally and the blue status bar passes two or three times then it suddenly stops and the harddisk access stops and the bar increases every one to five minutes but Windows won't boot. After resetting the system everything works perfectly and the PC runs 100% stable - 5 hours of Far Cry without any problems! The problem only occurs when the PC was turned off for a longer time; when resuming from hibernation or standby it will always boot normally. I changed everything for testing, even the power supply and safe BIOS settings but without success. Then I found out that uninstalling the graphics drivers helped. The I tried Omega drivers and now the problem occurs less often than with the original Catalyst drivers so I think it's the drivers fault in combination with my board. Does anybody have an idea what else to try? Thanks. cu René |

Definitely sounds like some kind of cold-boot problem. Double-check that RAM modules and any installed cards are properly seated. Remove them and put them back in to be sure. If you are lucky then that might help. Else some part might possibly have a component issue.

Hmmm...I did that already.
But now I'm currently trying something different: I plugged off the DVD Writer and test a few days...it's really hard to make a diagnosis since the problem doesn't occur every time I boot. Thanks. cu René |
