Hi,
For some reason, whenever I go to play games, doesnt matter what game, they slow down for a couple seconds, then speed up, then slow back down. It never used to do this!! I have an ATI Radeon 8500, it was working perfectly until I downloaded BattleField 1942 MP Demo. I downloaded it from a legitimate site, and when I went to play it, thigns were slowing down. So I tried some other games like Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Jedi Outcast, Operation Flashpoint, they all had the same problems! I have run through direct x and done all the testing, even on Direct3d where the box is spinning, it doesnt slow down. Did I download some bug! I reinstalled my drivers, and everything. It didnt help.... I was running all my games at the level I was running them before this problem, and they were slowing down. They never used to do that. I did a virus check, it isnt a virus. Does anybody know what could affect somethign system wide that would slow down games that used to run perfectly? I even defragged my hard drive. Maybe that download sent something that screwed everything up? I downloaded new drivers for vid card, that didnt help. So now Im using ones that I originally installed vid card with. I dont believe that the Radeon is causing the problems, I think it was the download. Need help here. 1.2ghz Celeron ATI Radeon 8500 128mb DDR 512sdram sound blaster live card 60gig hard drive. |

If you think it was the download then format.. install Windows.. or do what I do in these kind of situations, have a dual boot setup with separate OS's (my case WinME and WinXP), delete the Windows folder for your main OS that is causing the problem and reinstall that OS.
It's kinda dirty but if you think it is a software based problem eliminate all doubt by formatting/deleting Windows and reinstalling. No point in installing over the OS as this keeps your registry settings etc intact. |
