Default Post Best drivers and patches for 8500LE.

I have been an nVidiot for the last 3+ years and am taking the plunge w/ a ATI Radeon 8500LE 128MB card. I would like to know what is the best drivers for gaming/benchmarks. I would also like to know what patches/tweaks are needed.
I will be using Rage 3D tweak utility and a better HSF / ramsinks.

The Omega/Plutoniums are usually the best drivers. Right now, however, there are DX9 drivers available in a couple of flavors that Cyborg hasn't incorporated into the O/P's yet, and which are producing much higher benches (and a better gaming experience, I might add).

My personal setup?

Windows XP
XP SP1 1097
DX9 Beta2
ATI's DX9 6118 driverset + WHQL 6118 Control Panel

However, tomorrow I'm gonna try to transplant the 2D drivers from the 1097 service pack, which are version 6153, into the 6118 DX9 driver pack in the hopes that it will tide me over until Cyborg releases new O/P's. Wish me luck!

In other areas, you may want to get the latest BIOS, depending on how much visual glitching you get in 2D (hit "advanced" in display settings and see if your window flips out or not, see if you get artifacting at default speeds in artifact tester, etc.) and 3D.

The latest BIOS for your card is likely the 7.008, and is available from lots of links in this forum (or message me and I'll hook you up).

Thanks Gurm. My card should be here Monday or Tuesday from Newegg. I'll give it a try, what were your best 3Dmark scores?

Do not get caught up in benchmark scores. The numbers mean less than people give them credit for. ATI products are not reknowned for their amazing speed, but rather their good speed and image quality. The Omega drivers are not the fastest you can get but they do give excellent balance of speed and image quality.
