i like winrar because if the compressed file is corrupted, you can 'repair' the file and get out some of the stuff that was ok. i have a few times downloaded corrupt zip files and when ive repaired them only a nonessential thing was bad e.g. the readme file. also i think that both winzip and winrar are quicker to extract or compress things, ive not timed it, but it just seems that way to me

Omega would it be possible for you to try and possibly 'fix' the problem that ATI Cat's have with the mobo AGP aperture setting, somebody mentioned that there is a bug with the official ATI Cat's that Windows won't recognize an aperture setting over 64MB, unless you have 1GB of ram. I would like to set mine to 128MB and have it actually work, not just have the setting ignored by Windows.

Anyways I've read about this last week I'm thinking you also must know about this, I dunno if you thought about a possible fix or not or even if it would be possible or not.

But thanks for reading.

All those other file types you mentioned (ARJ RAR ACE TAR etc) really does not do anything for the average or even above average home user cuz most people never use those types of files to begin with....zip files are the most common compressed format and most people use the zip format....so Windows XP really is just fine to use as a compression utilty for the average home user---and the fact that XP can decompress cab files as well is just a bonus!

P.S Thanks for letting me know that XP can decompress cab files...now I can get to the matter of downloading the new Omega drivers

Gamma issue

First of all thankyou for the new drivers Omega.

Do you know if the Adobe gamma utility issue is still present on this set of drivers?

First up THANK YOU Omega for your drivers. I always wait for your release each month instead of bothering with the Offical ones. You rock!

I have a 9700 PRO:

Couple of Q's though.. this new tool called ATI Tool is odd. I ran the core tester first and it got upto 380.70 before it just stayed there after a bit. Took about 10 mins. Then once I 'thought' it had maxed out I went ahead and ran the Memory test and it only maxed out to 320.40 and at the same time dropped my core down to 379.80. Here's the rub.. I've successfully o/c'd my PRO to 378/330.75 manually. Is this ATI Tool being cautious or what?

edit: Don't care for the black background. Please make it an option next time(?)

Omega, I got the 2.5.44 set working great now, sorry I was so quick to judge on your set last night, turns out it had to do with my sound card drivers, I should've know better than to think that Omega would release less than perfect drivers.

Many thanks man.

yes, thanks omega, much appreiciated, i know 3dmark isnt thought of very highly anymore, but i got 200 marks extra on 2001 and about 50 on 2003 versus the official 4.5s which made me happy! the atitool will be lower than you can do manually as it checks for ANY artifacts ie if there is 1 then it lowers the clock speed and starts again, your eyes have no hope of picking up such a small imperfection (well unless they are a lot better than mine + you have a good monitor). this makes it a great way of finding your max as you arnt pushing the card beyond what it is capable of, having a crash or major artifacts and having to reset

so you really can install a new version of the Omega drivers over the old ones? I always thought you had to do the uninstall, reboot into safe mode, use drivercleaner.... Was i doing all that for nothing?

simply install right over top... the only thin you have to do is do the uninstall and driver cleaner if you had another video card in... or if you had the ATI CAT's (official).. you would have ....HAVE TO uninstall the Catalyst Control panel... but not the drivers....

Working like a charm Only 1 little issue so far, but could as well happen with the official 4.5 cat's (didn't try them): The shadows of the cars are missing in DTM Race Driver 2.

Perhaps some people (like me) prefer to have it traditional way, not integrated into shell. Also, other solutions (7-zip, WinRAR) offer a lot more functionality than normal WinXP compression tools.

When I try to uninstall any version of Catalyst/Omega or just try to install it over the one currently installed, I get an "Internal Failure"-error with the text: "Error Number: 0x80040707" "Description:".

And after clicking "OK" I get a "Severe"-error with the text: "ISLAYER.DLL not loaded into memory".

And after clicking "OK" again I get an "Unhandled Exeption"-error with the text: "Error Number: 0x80040702" "Description: Failed to load dll: ISLAYER" "Setup will now terminate."

And after clicking "OK" for the last time it exits!

This has happened to me since I ever had a Radeon in Microsoft Windows XP (ATi Radeon 7200 VIVO 64MB DDR / Gigabyte Radeon 8500XT 128MB DDR / ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB / and now waiting for the ATi X800 XT PCI Express).

The only solution I ever came up with is a clean install.

Nobody in the world could ever help me, they tried to help but came up with non-working solutions.

Can anyone (who maybe even had experience with this problem) REALLY help me?

Hey, I've just installed the new set on my 9800pro, and I am glad, that the gamma-override key made it into Omegadrive's standards.
I've heard about temporary AA, is this option not implemented in this set? I would deactivate it anyway, hehe, just curious.

Well if you install the set on top of your existing previous Omega-set, I've got errors with Radlinker, not finding its *.msi packet, so I would recommend to de-install that before, if you want the latest version, but it still does only oc - I did not find any improvements there. I've got couple of installation problems with Radlinker in the past, when changing drivers, install loops mainly.

I do not know why Refreshforce got exchanged by MultiRes, I am not a guy liking memory resident programs, I am minimalistic in this point of view, and I find it simply annoying to switch to every resolution I am using in games, to set its desired refresh rate, this after every driver-update, and did I mention that it does only work when you are running that MultiRes? And I think many users, do not use that tray hot-switching resolution often.. Long live Refreshforce!!! It's set up in 30secs for every res, no more to say.

Ah, one thing, I've got curious about the "DriverCleaner - Omega-Edition" so I started it, just to have a look at the options, well, ehm, then I clicked "Start" not knowing that it meant "START CLEANING"....
admittedly stupid - but I think it's quite misleading.

Well you can imagine, what was needed to do then..

Anyway, I wait for Omega's edition as well after every official release, it's nice package. Thanks, Omega.

Ok, I fixed the hibernate problem on my HP notebook. I uninstalled everything, rebooted in VGA mode, and reinstalled the driver only with none of the extras. Let the system reboot, checked Event Viewer for error messages, rebooted again, and then tried hibernate.

On another issue, I installed the new drivers on my desktop, AIW 9700Pro, last night. I initially installed them over the previous version, but after reboot I thought I was back in the 80s the screen redraws were so slow. After a little troubleshooting I completely uninstalled the drivers, rebooted and installed the new drivers only, rebooted and everything is fine.

So for me, installing over the old drivers just doesn't work.

Reset it, still had the problem. Reinstalled drivers on top of existing ones, still had the problem. Completely removed, installed them fresh, and I still have the problem. I think it might be an Open GL issue seeing as DirectX apps run fine and dandy.

No, it wasn't for nothin, is just better that way since u are sure there will be nothin causin trouble, normally installin over doesnt cause trouble but u cant be too sure about it :P like, some people prefer to install the new drivers in a clean windows installation, i wanna do that but for XP SP2
