Radeon 9600XT problem.

I have a slowdown problem. I recently bought a new PSU and a Radeon 9600XT. I installed the PSU and 9600XT right. At first everything worked perfectly. I tried a few games and they worked well. Suddenly during one game my computer restarted and when it came back there was terrible slowdown. Icons and taskbars would take forever to come up. I restarted and it is the same. I then tried different games, but everytime the game started loading, my computer would restart. I've tried most of the ATi cats (I am currently using 4.5) but the problem remains.

Is this a driver problem?

Any ideas?

Check your smartgart and dxdiag settings, looks like your agp is down to 0x or all your dx acceleration is unavailable. A reinstall of your mobo agp drivers, directx, and then the catalyst drivers should fix you up.

Here is my system:

P4 2.5Ghz
Sapphire 9600XT
256mb RAM
350W Antec PSU
80GB Hardrive
Windows XP

I also have a SiS chipset.

If I do find my SiS AGP chipset drivers what do I do? Do I need to uninstall old chipset drivers or what?

Thanks.

ok this is what i'd do... could be a waste of time but this should clean out the cobwebs so to speak.. might solve your problem....

in regedit goto

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management\

goto or add key
ClearPageFileAtShutdown

set the value
1

reboot, reboot again (will take longer).

goback

set the value
0

... then

goto these dir and delete all files in them (it's safe)
c:\windows\prefetch\
c:\windows\temp\

then goto run type chkdsk /f
when it prompts you choose yes and reboot
it'll check the drive let it do it

see if that helps you any

Can I keep my current ATi drivers installed while I update my chipset?

Here are some screens of my dxdiag settings: http://img13.imageshack.us/my.php?lo...splay25896.JPG
http://img16.imageshack.us/my.php?lo...splay45697.JPG

I've also got two more questions about updating my AGP chipset driver:

1) Is it 100% safe? What are some problems that could occur? And...

2) Do you think an AGP chipset updating would help my problem? (remember, my setup actually worked the first time I tried it).

So, do I just double-click on the .exe file?

shouldn't hurt anything but nothing's 100% but i've loaded those on another system with out any problems....

I forget if it's just a installer or that it will unpack to a location and you install from there but yea open the file
