try getting the latest motherboard chipset drivers for your pc, if its an Nforce chipset goto www.nvidia.com and if its VIA goto www.viaarena.com
if that still doesnt work try turning fast writes off in the bios and putting your AGP Arpature to about 128mb or higher. |

My guess would be it's becuase of the low ram and cpu. Lower quality setting and get some more ram, 512mb is the absolute minimum these days

Well shows what your dad knows, its cheaper cos your paying for the ghz, if you got an AMD at the same ghz as a P4 it would cost you more but youd have double the speed probably
![]() anyway processor arguements aside, cos they go on forever: intel boards have a Intel INF Driver update, they do float about the net but try looking on www.intel.com and seeing if you can find that INF driver, a lot of owners of the intel based boards forget to do that and your system ends up not runing how it should. give that a shot anyway

im getting p4 hyper threading, 2.5 ghz, 1gb ram, geforce 6800 ultra, new asus motherboard, 19 inch monitor plasma lcd thing supporting 100+hertz refresh rates, and all this is coming to me in about a couple of weeks. my dad said it will be about 1200 for two comps containing these features. i was like wow 1000ish bucks is GG in my opinion. now the other new comps with all that crap that u guys like are costing 5,000ish im like wow wtf. my dad gets our stuff from an ASI factory (computer factory) and i think he gets discounts because he fixes their work station comps. he knows little of gaming computers so thats why i need to get a new computer totally and find people to tell me what drivers and crap im suspose to install. well hope u guys can tell me where to dl drivers n stuff and i think i already got that inf driver but i'll check, a link would be more nicer then me surfing and getting the wrong shits. ^_^

do you get a lot of hard drive access during the pauses? could be something related to that slowing it down now...
Edit: actually thinking about it now, if it starts pausin after a certain amount of time (instead of from the start) that sounds like a heat problem, are you overclocking anything? |

NOTHING you do will help if you are running 256 mb ram. Go get more ram, then the problem will be gone. Then your dad will buy you better stuff so who cares right? Just for my own amusement- please tell me your birth date year is a misprint... because I want to guess your age.

DUDE-- it's not heat, not anything but lack of RAM. 100% problem, nothing else. Don't rack your brain trying to figure it out-- third post already did. It is obvious. |

I sooo agree with BWX...256mb of RAM isn't sufficient anymore...512 is the minimum....

HL2 can almost get by with 512mb, but the final version might need a gig.. A gig is pretty much standard for a real gaming rig.. 256- shouldn't even try to play games.

All that makes no difference in FPS speed and stuttering- Once he gets enough ram all that other stuff doesn't matter- Maybe 0.00001 seconds in loading times. Really. Actually you can turn the Page file right off in many games- I've done it in testing, and it works. Won't work in newer games with the amount of mem I have now though- But some games need a page file present even if they don't use it.. But the game is loaded into the ram. |

mmm k,
first off my paging file is 1500-2000 on c drive, i got 2 hard drives both are 100 gig thus making 200 gig. i have cool as hell house so its not a heat prob especially with 5 fanned chasis. i am 21 years old know little n care less about computer nerding it up. i learn what is needed and am still in learning. if u wish to flame then go to hell, if i wanted to listen to an ass hole i'd fart k thnx. second off my computer is perfectly fine except for the fact that my bios, ram, and video card are iffy. i was merely asking here for info on those subjects and only one dude replied with inf files to help. i gave screen shots of my comps specs and that should be enough data for you. if u need more ask, my asus motherboard is p4T-E ACPI BIOS 1007. intel 82850 chipset is what i got. finally please keep to subject and not flame about my age or father, being a jerk never got anyone fame nor respect. try to assist me with links to real sites homepages not unsupported crap thats possible hacks/virus's. the pause and going of my computer may be due to cache or in my opinion direct x 9.0b, mostly because ever since i got it my visual has been speeding up past dialog in games. so like for example i'll see the guy do the motion to talk but the talking does not sync up with the animation. strange retarded laggy computer. well im off intill next time cya. -edit- oh ya and no i never over clock because it damages comp and i do not wish to waste money on renewing crap because of overclocking, besides the clocking does little any way. i never see a difference any way so why bother.
