core frequency Powercolor 9600xt
Question is this. I ordered a Powercoler 9600xt from newegg a while back. Powercolor specs the core at 500MHz and ram at 300MHz. When I install any of the Omega drivers and view the "clock rate" tab it shows settings of 247.75-core and 337.50-memory by default. Are these the frequencies the card is actually running at, and why is the core so low? Is it due to the fact that I have only a 4x AGP bus instead of an 8x???
Also, I tried running ATI Tool and the frequency tests just started at a maximum value and counted down instead of going up...not sure if I can get this program to work to determine overclocking potential. also note: the Powercolor radeon 9600xt card does not have a thermocouple installed to monitor temps. My 9600XT is built by ati, but my clocks are 500/300, I'm only at 4X agp too soooo.
If it helps at all, I've jacked my core up to 562.00 and memory to 352.00. I never bothered with ati tool, just did it manually through radlinker. |

4x or 8x will not change the core speeds. seems as though they are underclocked.
try pushing up the notches slowly to see how close you can get them.could be a fault on the cards bios. where it performing ok before you installed the omegas. Jason. |

I'm pretty sure that with any driver Omega/ATI Catalyst it was always 247/337. I attempted to bump the core up to 300 for 300/337 and my computer almost instantly froze. I just wanted to make sure that these frequencies are what it is actually running at. I could try Radlinker to boost it though...I had just been using the tab in the Omega driver Advanced properties. I really wish the Powercolor cards had a thermocouple.

There was a problem with 9600xt clocks a while back that they would be displayed at half of their actual clock (for core only). Try a different clocker (like powerstrip) to confirm. I have a feeling that at 300mhz you were actually clocked at 600.

to follow up, I am now using Radlinker, instead of the clock frequency tab in the video settings tab (only available with certian versions of Omega drivers I've noticed) and it displays the frequencies correctly 500/300. I've overclocked it to 530/340 with stock cooling (1 card fan, 4 case fans, w/ PIII 800MHz Socket 370 which runs cool) and no problems at all. Also, I'm using the newest Omega drivers 2.5.51

I take my last positive post back... It was fine for a while with the newest Omega drivers, but now I get a Win2000 stop screen when starting windows. Ah, each version of either the Omega or Catalyst drivers has something that doesn't work right with my system. Time to start trying various combinations of drivers/software again....
somebody wanna sell me a cheap ass but reliable card??? lol, jk. but not really |
