How about problems with mpg and avi files playing? In 4.5 and lower, my mobility 9700 worked just fine. Now it's choppy and basically unplayable unless I knock down the HW accelleration one notch. And even then it has problems w/ some in game video- like Rise of Nations intro....

Normally in Jedi Outcast, anti aliasing causes slow-down no matter what level. I tried AA on with "Temporal" and the difference is noticed. At 6x It drops as low as about 35fps at 1280x720 which is better than temporal off. At 2x AA there is no real noticeable drop from 60fps, it goes between 50-60fps.

The addition of temporal is therefore a positive one.

Now just to wait for HDTV-DVI screen functions.

the entire Counter-Strike community is being ignored by Valve and ATI regarding Counter-Strike 1.6 FPS issue with the ATI cards. even tweaking it to the maximum is not enough.. if ill compare.. its seems to be that 9800XT CS performence is even less then Ti4600 series by NVIDIA. personally i am very dispointed from the OpenGL & CS 1.6 performence and the fact that ATI/Valve keep ignoring.. there is thread on Valve forums around thousands of views.. and its just no one cares.
Counter-Strike is popular multiplayer game. and if you will google around.. you will find millions of posts (Radeon & CS 1.6)
and ATI is already replied before a long time ago:

"Counter-Strike: Random frame drops with 1.6 game patch"

"The information in this article applies to the following configuration:
CATALYST 3.7 and 3.8 Display Drivers
All RADEON based graphics boards
A noticeable drop in frame rate will occur when playing the game Half-Life: Counter-Strike.

ATI Engineering has been advised of this issue and is investigating.

To work around this issue, please download and install previous CATALYST 3.6 driver suite:
"
its very old and we never heard about this issue for a very long time.

a reminder:CS 1.5 performence is great its just the new v1.6 suffering from horrible frame rates drops and bad performence. (this fact killing the Quake 2 OpenGL engine excuse)

really hope to see better OpenGL performence in the next catalyst or update from Valve (someone gotta break the ice. and i hope its not gonna be CS: Source)

p.s
the latest catalyst OpenGL driver got improved a bit.. but still the older OpenGL 2.4-3.4 is faster
and from my benchmarks: Radeon 9800XT is performing slower by almost 52% from "old" nVIDIA cards in Counter-Strike 1.6

Sadface.
funny that lockups normally dont have to do anything with 1 particular set of drivers...

rather then blaming ati drives try fixing you pc and make sure ur graphic card is not overheatig.

Try Aztec, bombsite above the water and looking at a few players on screen. If you still get something over 100fps then I really will be envious

I love people who use developer 1 and then brag about getting over 100 ftps. Using developer 1 is just to brag that u get over 100 fps but when you are getting 500 fps and then get into a firefight and it drops to even just 200 fps, thats a 300 fps drop which will effect your game more than someone dropping from 100 fps to 40 fps. Set developer back to 0, do you get any fps drops or do you get a constant 99-100 fps no matter the map or game situation?

The whole issue is not how high you can get your fps to, its the fact of the major drops in fps. I'm not saying this includes all ati users, just a vast majority of them. You would think the opengl driver would be able to handle a 4-5 year old game engine.

I have heard from a few sources that ATI is rewritting the OpenGL drivers. Perhaps their OpenGL development team is busy.

LA_MERC_Mavrick is on a distinguished road

hi, this is my first post here, but i recently installed the omega drivers for my ati 9800pro, and i must say they make cs look awesome with temporalaa, 4xAA, and 8xAF, I still experience fps drops, but not near as often and usually it only happens when there are about 15 peeps on the screen all firing and throwing grenades...lol. I do have a problem that I cant seem to figure out. Since Cat 4.6, I have not been able to play any type of video files, my cpu usage goes up to 100% even trying to open media player or powerdvd, and i have to manually reboot my computer to close out of the programs. However, if I install the Cat 4.5 drivers, I can play video and dvds with no problems. Any ideas as to what may be causing this? As I was reading through this forum, i noticed someone mention a program called driver cleaner to remove unneccesary previous driver files, i figured i would completely uninstall the video drivers, run the program, then reinstall the drivers to see if that fixed my issue, but i would appreciate any other ideas.

Welcome to DH

Can you supply some more details of your system specs

Driver Cleaner

Make sure to read the readme file for detailed instructions, Driver Cleaner is a powerful tool that if not used properly can cause undesired results.

If you take the time to read the instructions it can be a life saver at times because it can remove many things besides your ATI drivers.

I hope I didn't scare you away but I like to pass on the heads up to all users

havent tried yet but ever since 4.3 ive been wary to try new versions as they usually did more harm than good

Sorry to bump an old thread but I was wondering if anyone has noticed problems with Halo and the 4.7 cats? Everything's fine until I get to the Halo menu and everything starts flashing.
Thx

Edit- Nevermind, its SP2 that breaks halo
