New Redesigned Catalyst
Scheduled for release on September 2nd according to The Inquirer. The interface looks easier to navigate and gives real time 3d previews when changing options. Check out the article and screen shot here.

Taken from the B3D article around 2 months ago which was removed days later due to violation of NDA. Surprised it took inquirer so long to post this stuff, they dont sign any NDA

That looks very nice if I must say. Very well organized and the preview window is freakin awesome. The auto update feature sounds nice too, though I doubt we'll see these on the 2nd...maybe the 20th.

yeah the 4.8 are kind of delayed.... and the 4.9 beta's seemed to be stable for most people....
maybe they will skip the 4.8 drivers. I remeber 4 days ago though on the frontpage news somebody said that the 4.8 will be with us very shortly... which normally means 2 to 4 day... mhhhh zardon knows... zardon wont tell

Even if 4.9 were at stage 4 in Catalyst assembly there's absolutely no way to pin down a date. There's really no way to tell how long it will take. It's a good guess since that's the first week of the month and ATI will only release drivers mon-wed but that's all it is, a guess.

Is the version of Catalyst that's going to be released next month, 4.9 or 5.x? Some other source says the version will be 5.x which I don't believe because I have seen many people saying that from January 2004, the version itself means the release month and year, i.e., the number before decimal point being last digit of the year, and the number after decimal point being month of the year. So unless they release this new CP in 2005, what I saw doesn't make any sense.
However, I haven't seen people from ATI saying anything about version number. Is it just coincident that the version matches the release year and month from the month of January 2004? Anyone has any info about this? |

4.x represents 2004. The first digit is the year. The digit to the right of the decimal place represents the number of release for the year (not the month.) For example, theoretically, 4.11 could come out in December since it would be the 11th release of the year.

It just so happens that there has been one release a month. The naming scheme is year.release not year.month

Thanks for replys. So that's what ATI crew said? The reason why I'm asking you is that like I said, I didn't see any ATI crew mentioned about this in any forum(I know, of course, that there is a chance that I didn't see it.
).Anyway, don't you think that the version number is kind of awkward when it goes from 4.9 to 4.10? I mean, if someone doesn't know what it actually means, he/she could think that 4.9 is the latest. Why doesn't ATI put "zero" after the decimal point? like 4.08, 4.09, 4.10, 4.11... This would be much clearer, right? |

Already implimented with the last release of MMC, 9.01. The old naming scheme would have had it as 9.1. I have no information on a change in the Catalyst naming scheme.

I think there is a typo on ATI website.
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/w...x=7&submit.y=3 It says 9.01, but if you click on "Release notes", it says 9.1. I don't think they follow that naming scheme with MMC. |

It has different writings in different spots, even within MMC itself. It's supposed to be 9.01. The FAQ is also titled MMC 8.x FAQ. Sometimes it takes time for standardization, much like the new ATI logo.

Here's the official word:
http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4590.html "ATI Multimedia Center 9.01 (aka 9.1) will upgrade to 9.0x (two decimal places) in the future. We apologize for this discrepancy, and any confusion this may result"

Why ATI is too lazy to update the website though?Anyhow, Dom is just 1 away from 10,000 posts. That is incredible. Congratulation!

I have a question regarding this new Catalyst design. How will this effect Omega's drivers? I use his exclusively and don't bother with the 'official' releases. Am I going to have to choose between this cool new design or not get it with Omega's version?

erm... it's based on month and not "release"
If anyone recalls the 3.x driver archive... there was 1 "release" skipped.. why? because an entire month passed without a driver... the following month the next revision for the specific month came out.... And i do beleive this happened a few times with the 2.x drivers
