??? Maximum Resolution Setting Stopped Working

I just reinstalled Windows on my Dell 8200 with a Radeon Mobility 9000. I installed the Omega drivers 2.5.67 straight away. When I hooked up my external monitor, the default max resolution was 1600X1200. This particular monitor can go up to 1792X1344 and that's what I ran it at before I reinstalled Windows (I will hook up another at the other location I use the laptop that goes to 1920X1440, but I don't think that's relevant to my question). So, I went into the advanced settings, unchecked DDC and selected a higher maximum, just as I'd done when I set it up successfully about a year ago.

It appeared to partially work in that I could set resolutions all the way up to 1920X1440. Of course, these higher resolutions killed the sync with the monitor, but the point is that I could set them in the Display properties.

But it never showed the 1792X1344 resolution, so I was stuck with an effective max of 1600X1200 (I could select, say, 1880X1440, but that would be too much for the screen and it would blank).

I went back into the Advanced | Displays, and tried to set the max Resolution to 1792X1344 (it was in that last, just not on the Settings tab of Display Properties), figuring I'd deal with my higher res monitor later. However, now it no longer goes past 1600X1200 on the Settings tab of the Display Properties no matter what I set here in the Advanced | Displays.

What's going on????? This has worked for me before. Before I reinstalled Windows (with some older version of the Omega drivers, don't know which), I successufully ran this external screen at 1792X1344 and my other at 1920X1440. The system was even smart to enough to remember which monitor was which and automatically selected my old resolution and location when I connected the monitor (at work the screens on the right of my laptop, at home it's on the left).

What could cause the changes on the Advanced | Displays tab to stop enabling higher settings back on the Displays | Settings tab?

Thanks for any help. I must get past this 1600X1200 where I'm currently stuck.

I am stupid and I fixed it, but I can see how others might make the same mistake. I also don't understand why it let me set higher rates initially, but then stopped.

Anyway, to any others who may experience the same problem, setting the maximum resolution higher is only one of 2 steps you need to perform. You also need to uncheck the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" on the regular Advannced | Monitor tab.

It would be nice if making changes on the Advanced | Displays | Monitor pane would automatically uncheck this box.

Once I unchecked this, I was able to select 1792X1344 and everything worked perfectly.
