9500 to 9700 softmod??
what reasons exists that would prevent soft mod from working on my ati 9500?
Specs: ATI Saphire 9500 non pro "L" shaped memory "red" 256 bit pcb board I have been successful with the soft mod, less than 1 year ago, and I have recently had to reinstall drivers. Now the soft mod results in a black or flickering screen no matter what version of Omega, or UniAN drivers I use. I have tested my video card in another machine with the same results. So far only the regular drivers work, "non soft modded". Thanks for any advice.

Well, what it means is the other 4 rendering pipes on your card are damaged. If you do a search on "softmod" (on driver heaven) you will find a bunch of post about this checker board problem.
Good luck EDIT: And welcome to a great forum.

you can try to uninstall correctly... meaning uninstall it and use driver cleaner and cab cleaner (same thing... but link in my sig, and read directions).
try that, also upgrade to service pack 1 if u havent already, and upgrade directX9c if u havent. www.windowsupdate.com is your friend. after that try the new drivers. your vid card must be a 9500 non pro with 128mb memory in L shaped config. if its not working for u after that it means the memory in the 256 area is broken like said above my post better :P ya ya ya i know what your thinking, it worked before. but your dealing with computers man, everything that makes sence gets thrown out the door, and those are the risks you take from buying the product u bought, and trying to go higher.

I get the same results. What happens is I get a blue screen of death saying basically that a file has caused the system to shut down. If I remember correctly it references the file atidtag.sys. Other times it referenced the file ati2mtag.sys or something very close to that.
I guess I'm stuff with only 4 working pipes then, unless this makes any sense and there is a workaround. Thanks for the feedback. |
