Thumbs Up! Omega drivers saved my card from myself! lol

Hi all,
I'm was basically an nvida person that was it. Friends of mine had probs with ATI cards and most of em send em back. I would never buy an ATI card untill a buddy of mine showed me a killer deal on an ASUS 9800xt/256. He swore buy em and he played as many games as I do. So I took the plunge and bought it. I told him if this cards sucks I'm coming over a shoving it down your throat. Got the card about 2 weeks ago, installed it, loaded ATI drivers, cat 4.8/ Ran pretty good untill I played UT2K4 and D3 (D3 ati patch). Those to games ran like a$$ and the ok-ish of the performance on the other games were not all that impressive. I was about to hum the card out in the street and back over it with my truck! Well after a couple weeks of tweaking the cats, bois changes and calling this card a POS! I ran across the Omega drivers. Cleared the ATI drivers/cat out and sweeped em out of my reg. I loaded the omega drivers! WOW all my games kicked into high gear. 3D depth got deeper, FPS thru the roof. D3 and UT2K4 ran solid and crisp! So the omega drivers saved this card from myself cause I was about to play frisbe with it or put it under the back tire of my truck and pop the clutch!

Omega rules! F-in A

Thanks,
Yallrun

unreal2k4 runs better on ATI then any other nvidia card, dunno what ur talking about their. but doom3 is slower on ati hardware cause its an OPENGL game. dunno why u had a problem with the first.

make sure to use driver cleaner to whipe everything out... but if u had nvidia before, the best solution would be to format and start from scratch, installing new drivers for your system that are up to date from the web, etc.

dunno why u had a problem with regular drivers, u shouldnt have., but omega drivers are really nice.

ATI is better than nvidia in a lot of respects. however ati has a way to go with openGL (Which its working on), and linux support.

Well alot of my friends had probs with ATI cards crashing systems, just wont run good etc. as I sat back shacking my head saying should have gotta nvidia. But I was told the ASUS XT card I got is the Ferriari of the 9800 series and will run anything. I was just as puzzled as you as to why this card wont run well on those 2 games with the standard ATI 4.8. But for some reason the omega drivers fixed what ever the prob was. I not gonna bang my head trying to figure out why. But it's a sweet card now. It's a shame to put it a computer. the card, dual fan configuration and the heat sinks look awesome!

Just wanted to convey how great it was the omega drivers runs it beautifully!

Oh MindlessOath thanks for the driver cleaner link down there, very extensive and works great. Once I got everything back that was deleted with ATI.extention, The omega drivers loaded up great. I ran the driver cleaner on eveything so you can imagine what it took. But if you know how to get it all back it's no prob. Everything is running clean, video card is running better then ever.

Thanks,
John

It's very flattering to say omega drivers fixed everything.. but the truth is that his drivers gives marginal improvment in frame rates, but does provide better appearance in some games.

Why dont you reinstall the official ATI drivers again? Im betting it'll still run well - most likely the first time you installed it it didnt install properly.

Wonderful, I installed 4.9 CCC now I have a CLI.exe error, don't know what that is?!!!!!!!!!! Failed to initialize.

Help please? If not I just go back to the trusty Omega drivers!

Thanks,

No I sure didn't, give that a try when I get home! How do you get the overdrive tab on there? Or is it part of 4.9?

Thanks,
Yallrun

Hey Yallrun...

dont listen to these guys...GO BACK TO OMEGA! Theres absolutely NO REASON to use original ATI drivers. NO REASON AT ALL. Many people from ATI have even said things like that they trust Omega drivers and that if someone wanted modded drivers, they would suggest Omega drivers.

Seriously just use Omegas. I had bad luck with ATI originals.

lol, thats just lame to say

well i suggest if ur doing good with omega stay with him, he does make good drivers that work for people that cant get regular drivers working for odd reasons.

i would suggest trying the new CCC panel out, tho u need .net framework, get it at www.windowsupdate.com then reboot and goto it again and get the upgrades for it.
www.microsoft.com and search for the beta 2.0 version of .net framework, its probably better if u wana try it out, it doesnt hurt to have this stuff for future benifit even if u dont decide to upgrade to CCC.

I think you owe it to yourself to get these original ATI drivers working.. Just dont grab the version that has the CCC in it and you'll be fine.

I got it working last night. It looks cool and all, but it eats memory up. At first launch it crashed my system, blue screen of death. Never had that happen! lol Upon reboot it decided to work if that's what you call it.! lol UT2K4 went back to having a little chop to it on single player. Omega drivers never did that! And where is the overdrive tab? Gess, they'll never get it together! Back to the Omega drivers I go! If there was a little stabilty to the new CCC it would be the shiznit. Right now it just looks cool is all! Give it a couple days though and see how it acts before I wipe em out and go back, I'll give it that!

you know, I dont think he owes it to anyone. If it aint broke dont fix it!

the card works with omega drivers...omega drivers are usually better in most things...just stick with what works and dont mess around alot more if its giving you a headache. If you want headaches, experiment around later, but for now get everything working as it should. Use Omega.

why do you want him to use standard drivers anyway?

Keep tewlling my self I should have stay with nvidia, but I;ve never owned an ATI before so how was I suppose to know![/color]

well the 9800XT has always had a few problems. Personally I wouldnt have just gotten the 9800PRO or the X800Pro. I mean the X800pro is the same price as the 9800XT now. honestly though, this isnt ATI's fault that you're having problems. Its your computers. Thats not a bad thing persay, its just how it is. I also notice that people have alot more problems converting from nVidia to ATI than from ATI to nVidia. Makes me think that nVidia doesnt really want you to change if you get my drift.

I dont know, pure speculation.

in any case if it worked with omega's, why not stick with that? Omega drivers are GOOD STABLE drivers that wont get you shit.

Very true! I have gone through alot in the madness of ATI, but there one thing I appreciate in getting this card and software to run. I appreciate the knowledge gained! Yeah I'll probably go back with the omega drivers if anymore probs arise or infact get a 6800U before it's all said and done. I put my TI in my daughter PC and if video card could laugh, my old TI is laugh it's ass off for the past month since I bought my 9800XT! he he he!
