Re: 9500 -> 9700 Softmod in Omega Drivers
I've been wondering about this for a while and I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this. I have a Radeon 9500 Pro; when I first purchased the card I flashed the bios in order to be able to overclock the core\mem (at that time) but in doing so the card is recognized as a 9700 Pro by Windows.
Now when installing the Omega drivers of course we have the option for the 9500 -> 9700 softmod (and the 9800SE -> 9800 Pro). Having a 9500 Pro that's been flashed for overclocking and is recognized as a 9700 Pro is there any advantage for me to use the 9500 -> 9700 softmod during the installation of the Omega driver? It says it's for 9500 NP and Pro and I was just wondering if there was any clear advantage for me to use it with this card. I'm assuming that there isn't an advantage but I'm not sure.

Sounds like you're already acting like a 9700Pro on the hardware level.

no the 9500np to 9700np mod is not needed, or will not work for you. you have a pro board and the soft mod should not work.
omega drivers allow you to overclock the card when u install the drivers themeslfs, no need for the softmod.

That's what I was thinking. I was sure it wouldn't really affect much (there isn't a way to compensate for not having a 256-bit memory bus through software) but I just wanted to get some input just in case I was missing something.
