Will I ever be able to use Omega Catalyst...

On my FireGl 8800 128mb ?

I would need to know if this is possible, if i need to change anything, if you can add the support.

Or if I just have to cry

Thanks for answering.

Please give me an answer. I understand my can be a noob question, but at least I need to know it.

Next step for me is to flash the card with the 8500 bios modded in clocks and some MC timings to match the 8800 (modded with RaBit 1.5).

Ok, I've got a strange ... result.

I can see everything, but my card after I have flashed it with a modded 8500 bios it is not recognized as a Radeon 8500 but still as a Fire Gl 8800.

I don't think this is normal is it.. ?

Edit :

It looks like that there is a mismatch between DEVICE ID and ASIC ID.
The second one sits firmly to the default 0x5148 while the DEVICE ID has changed to 0x514C.

Help.

i don't think the omegas will ever really support firegl cards.... but i can not make any statement on that. Omega will have to say...

as for your issues.... usually the bios flash trick works.. but maybe something didn't flash right... try reflashing to see if it clears up the issues... make sure you know everything is set correctly....

I highly suggest you don't flash your card to 8500 though... but that's just my personal opinion...

I do understand what you are saying and I appreciate the reply.

The main reason for flashing my card to an 8500 is to benefit from the set of catalyst of which everybody is speaking so well.

See if you, or anybody else, could solve this.

If I launc the command " flashrom -i " I get back a report where under the voice "Lock" there is an unfortunate YES.

Does this ring any bell ?

Thanks again Judas.

Edit : p.s. As for re-flash the card, I've tried several times tonight with my old BIOS and other modified or un-modified 8500 BIOS.
Same result, I strongly belive that what prevents me from a good 8500 is that mismatch between ASIC and DEVICE IDs.

What is the problem?
They don't install?
Do they install but something doesn't work after reboot?
Everything works but no OpenGL?

Hi Omega.

They do install, they do detect the Fire GL8800.

After reboot what doesn't work is for example, Neverwinter Nights or American's Army that shows the message that the Direct3D accelleration is disabled. (although is marked as enable)
Workaround is to get into DXDIAG , run the tests and afterwards everything runs again.
OpenGl looks a bit choppy though.

Will I be able to gain from both, OpenGl and D3D if I turn my card into a 8500 (keeping MC timings and clocks as the Fire GL) ?

I'm very conviced that your work is worth a donation, that I will personally do, so if you have got any specific question or need any particular logs, please let me know.

Do you mind if I ask you a question and im sincerely not being a smart ass, but are you using the firegl primarily for gaming? and if so why? did you get a good deal on it or ?

I had the loan of a firegl X2 a while ago from ATI and it was bloody awful for gaming with. I can understand your want to play games on it but those cards are really made for professional applications (yes I know its just basically a different bios to the comparative consumer level card), that is why ATI charge so much for them (and nvidia for the quadros), the specialised development of the opengl driver and profiling system which requires a dedicated team alone.

I was used to work with it.
Unfortunately I don't anymore... take it like a little "souvenir" that I took from my company.

I would trade it up but I belive the overclocker/tweaker soul within me is begging to try this.

You are not being a smart ass, your question is as genuine as good.
And you never know, my findings could help someone else in a near future.

Thanks for the attention.

p.s. Doom 3 shadows are corrupted with this driver on the Fire Gl 8800 bios.
I could post a screenshot if needed.

Ok, I had to go to bed last night as my brain was shutting down...

As soon as I'll be at home today, I will get screenshots.

Thanks, Danka.

Here they are.

Settings in doom 3 are 1024x768 on defaults High.

I truly hope that the cause of the problem is in some way me and not your drivers Omega.

This images have been taken after a clean install of the latest Omega (no ati*.dll no registry entries) and with the original BIOS of the FireGL (no overclock, no radlink)

Thanks.

No, it's original, installed from original CDs (Not mine thought :P ) and I will install the new patch today.

I'm sorry to bother you guys with my old card, when a lot of you have monsters ATI in their systems, but I'd like at least to have an Omega opinion in whether his drivers actually pump-up a bit the performance of my card as well or if I'm better staying with the 8.043 Unified Fire Gl drivers.

Sorry again to bother you this much.

The Catalyst drivers should work way better for games than the standard FireGL ones, but the problem is that the lock ATI has put in FireGL cards is though to beat unless you hardmod the card.
Have you tried forcing an 8500 card though the device manager?

Not sure about the unian or other modded sets, but i noticed that the dna drivers have support for firegl cards, tho I'm not sure if he uses the firegl driver or what (he does not say)...it may be worth a try though to see if it helps.

Good luck; dna doesn't make the best drivers (or the most honest anyway), but hopefully they will work for you.
