thats either :

1) A source bug

or

2) Dodgy mem chip/controller on the card.

I hope its 1 but i think its 2 because i've had that on cards before and the only soln is RMA.

try setting the shader details to low/off (i don't remember if off is an option)

that may help as well. did you have this problem before these drivers?

Strange, I played one hour CSS with this new driver and I had no problems like yours. Same settings in cp and css (+8xAF), 9800 Pro 128 MB.

In Doom 3 (demo1) -> no changes for me.

CATALYST beta posting of 8.07 driver
A beta of 8.07 has been made available at the link below:

http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4649.html (just click on the “driver hotfix†text to download the driver)

incidentally mike you might want to look into putting your system specifications into your signature not into your main post text, go into your profile and copy and paste that text into your "signature"

At least 5 times it has been asked, and 4 pages, countless views, and
still has yet to be answered.

DOES THIS DRIVER BENEFIT ALL...ALL 256MB
CARDS?

FOR INSTANCE...AN 9800PRO (256) OR PERHAPS A 9800XT (256) OR IS THIS JUST FOR THE NEWEST LINE OF CARDS?

A SIMPLE "YES, IT SUPPORTS ALL 256 CARDS, OR A NO IT DOES NOT", WILL BE SUFFICIENT AND APPRECIATED.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BMG have you got a problem or something? seems to me you seem intent on causing issues no matter where you post in this forum and it will stop today.

Personally I dont know if it works on all 256 cards as I dont own all of ATIs 256 meg cards and have only tried a few but yes it works on the 9800 and up from my limited testing (ive only had it a little under a week). How about you try it and let us know any gains/losses you find?

questions answered satisfactorily? good, now drop the caps, oversized type and the attitude.

man...

I'd love to test them but I need the softmod for my card. If I could keep the omega softmod but use the drivers it'd be awesome.

I use to use a reg hack for it on the old mobo\harddrive but that is long gone now and I hardly remember it.

ATI has decided to make the 8.07 beta driver available to the public for a variety of reasons:

The 8.07 beta driver fixes a random hang issue with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic when loading / switching levels. We have received a significant number of bug reports for this issue and feel that it should be addressed as quickly as possible.
ATI wants to provide its RADEON X700 customers with the same level of performance and gaming experience as shown in the recent RADEON X700 reviews. Unfortunately due to the time requirements to ship RADEON X700s to retail shelves a now out-dated 8.04 driver had to be used for the software CD.
The 8.07 beta driver includes a memory allocation bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory that significantly improves performance for applications that make intensive use of graphics memory.
According to the last paragraph it says "ALL 256 RADEON PRODUCTS". That includes your's BMG.

No attitude here Zardon ol' buddy, Just trying to get an answer
to a question that had been asked numerous times, and
recieved no reply.

Also, I asked for all 256 MB cards, not "all ATI cards".
I figured you would have the info from Cat Maker...
all I wanted to know buddy.

Ok? We G2G?

Question is answered to my satisfaction. May test it later, after
an F1C race I have tonight. The current 4.9 drivers run F1C really
good, and don't wanna mess with that now.

If I do try and benchmark, (will have to use Fraps) I'll be sure and
post the results.

BACK ON TOPIC!

I have a Radeon 9500 Pro (!) and I measured the FPS of Doom 3 timedemo1 with the Omega 4.9 and the new betas (which I modified in Rage3DTweak): 38.7 and 38.5, respectively.

It's very minimal, but I noticed that the betas didn't slow down as much than the 4.9's during the test, while they might of not got as high.

I'm keep'n em.

Yeah unfortunately Terry is flying around the world at the minute and all I can tell you guys is what ive been sent in the email which I posted word for word and my testing with stuart. It does seem to work on most of the 256 cards we tried but neither of us have older boards handy atm for testing.

So ill be just as interested as the rest of you in getting some results from you guys on 9600s for example.

Haven't posted for a while, but Im receiving a big boost in doom3 performance. Using a X800XTPE using these drivers resulted in a smoother game for me. What exactly were the causes of this memory allocation bug? What did the catalyst reject the extra 128mb or something and its just now been activated in this set?

Im confused.

I'm sure all 256 MB onboard were used however there may have been some bug preventing that amount of memory to be used 100% efficiently (or something along those lines). Basically it worked but not as well as it could\should have depending on the card.

Nice...
3DM03,default res., and 4x AA, 8x AF:
From 7935 to 8035

WTH...
AQM3, default settings:
From 58,000 to 62,617!!!

Is this a pure memory fix or has there been some optimisations added?

I did some testing with D00m3 and 3DMark03-

Doom3 @ 1024x768 -High Detail- jumped from 46.9 FPS with Omega's 4.9's to 54.8FPS with this driver- that's 16.8% my friends

3DMark03 showed very little difference for me (~ 1% well within margin for error) till 1600x1200- the total score increased 3% and the game4 score increased 8%.
