I ran two timedemos to compare the 4.9's to the 8.07's in Doom3. The first was demo1 and the other was a 40 sec timedemo I made. I noticed a performance increase in every test I ran with the biggest increases coming with shadows dissabled (for those who don't mind a little loss in eye candy for consistently smooth gameplay). In addition, my gameplay demo had a bigger performance increase than demo1 so don't think demo1 is going to tell the whole story about the new drivers.

System:
Asus A7N8X-X
AMD 2500+ Barton core (333fsb)
1GB DDR 2700
ATI 9800 Pro 128MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Windows XP SP2

Demo1 Results:

4.9's - 800x600, medium detail, noAA
first run: 47.6 fps
second run: 54.5 fps
third run (shadows off): 66.2 fps

8.07's - 800x600, medium detail, noAA

What about WDM drivers? Will this beta work w/ the catalyst 4.9 WDM drivers or will I have to wait for the official ones?

On a side note I could only open page 1 of this thread w/ IE. If i clicked on 2,3,4,5 it wouldnt do anything. I pasted the link into opera and it worked fine any ideas what would cause that?

what magic did the guys at ATI do now? Zardon do u have any clue what stuff they put in these drivers, I can accept 5-10 points increase in benchmarks and 1-2 fps increase in games but such radical improvements are simply awesome, 66.5 fps in Doom 3, 100 point increase in 3d mark 2003 and the best of all 5000 point increase in Aquamark 3, these are simply the best betas , ATI has brought, I love u guys and I know its been a long time since I said that, I can only hope things will get better when the final set is out

I hear Ya' my friend! I have tried every single dvr release, both official and Omega since I got my 9600XT, and I havn't really got any improvement either (all up maybe 500 - 1000 on AQ3D for a total of 29560 pts) still, I have noticed that most of my games seem to have gotten smoother as I've progressed through the dvr's. Currently using omega 4.9's with the old cp. Pretty happy, but I can't help myself - I gotta try these one's! - I'll let you know if I crack 30000.

PS - I know I should post my rig details in my sig so people can see and compare - but when I see the Monster Trucks some of you guys are driving, I get all embarrased about my little tricycle!

I'm guessing the download only contains the driver without CCC or old CP.
What is the best way to install CCC with the driver?

Sapphire Radeon 9600 XT 256 MB, driver installed on top of current Omegadriver:

3DMark03 quits to desktop without error message after running the first test.

Edit: Funny, twice run, twice quit to desktop. Then 3DMark 2001 and GL Excess in between, and now 03 runs through....

Just tested Doom3 on my 9800Pro.

demo1, 1152x864, 8xAF, normal-compression, second-run scores:
Cat 4.9 with CCC: 39,2fps
8.07 with old CCC: 42,2fps

Too bad the old CCC doesn't support Catalyst AI; I hope they release an updated version of that as well...

EEK! pigdog exposes himself!

First up - for those wondering; yes these drivers come with the good old CP!

Second - My AQM3D score has hit 32135! (from 29thousand and something) but my 3Dmark2003 score went from 3975 to 3976 (WTF?) Oh well: GO AQM3D YOU GOOD THING!

Thirdly - I've fooled around with Doom 3, Farcry, Rome total War and Warhammer: Dawn of War, and they are all performing absolutley brilliantly!

Fouthly(?) - I Have bravely decided to record my system details in my Sig - thankyou for the moral support "WisMerHill"! - I use it for the good of all mankind ( OK - just for me really, but didn't that sound really noble, even if only for a second? )

And lastly (??) - Can't wait to see what Omega does with these .

Just added another 512mb so its probably a combination but I got about a 25%improvement on my frame rates in Doom.

Sweet.

Are these drivers a Cat 4.10 beta?

Since Cat 4.3 (the oldest set I have on my HDD right now) the numbers always increased in 0.01-steps. Cat 4.3 was 7.99, Cat 4.4 was 8.00, Cat 4.5 was 8.01 and so on, until 8.05 which are Cat 4.9. If there was a beta (like the Doom-4.9-beta) they added a digit, so the official Cat 4.9 was 8.051 and not 8.06.

So, following this pattern Cat 4.10 should be 8.06. What we have here are 8.07, so my guess is these are a beta of Cat 4.11!

If I recall correctly the Cat 4.9-Doom-beta was released even before the WHQL'ed Cat 4.8 were out, so these drivers being 4.11 makes sense to me...

(now we just need the new CCC to get access to Catalyst AI)

I can't wait to see if Omega drops a driver set based on this beta driver.

How do I install CCC with this new driver? Do I need to uninstall the old CP first? Or can I just install the driver with CCC without installing the old CP first?
Btw I don't want to use the old CP coz I like the new CCC better.
Any inputs?

Thanks guys/girls

Wolfran,

Uninstall and drivercleaner your system of ATI drivers.

reinstall the package above then uninstall ONLY the CP pannel.

then reboot then install the standalone CCC pannel

reboot and your good to go.

remember to download the standalone CCC pannel from ATI.com first.

i don't think that this will happen...why don't you try the original set?
they are pretty smooth - the boost in aquamark is impressive but i had a similar boost with the spirit 1.5 set.
so all that really counts for me is the boost in games like doom3
i don't like benchmarks that much...

well, i know a good driver from NFS:U (for me), a good driver makes this game as smooth as possible, i tried a lot of them but the best for me which made this game run like water was the 4.9 Official, when i installed this one it created a lot of pauses in game, the settings r the same exactly (i'm 100% sure), so i don't know y it does that, i didn't try it in Doom though, but i'm sure it will make a good increase in smoothness in it , i'll wait for the next one.

All i can say is wow...............I gained over 2700 points in aquamark compared to the official 4.9's and that is w/o over clocking. My Overclock usually gives me between 200-400 extra points so Id say these drivers gave me a 3000 point increase in aquamark. Compared to the omegas or Unians I am gaining about 2500 points.
