I think we are in for a big surprise when it comes to Omega's plans!

Things like: An "Omega-Powered" version of the 8.07 and a built-in NEW version of "Radlinker" like he promised (no more manual installation of this application...LESS installation problems)!

And ya never know...maybe some more goodies!!!

We all wish you luck Omega!

I dont think anyone needs to redownload and reinstall though
this small update was becuse ati added support for the X700 Cards.

nothing else changes i dont think. so if you dont have a x700 card then no need to worry.

I can confirm that; before Zardon announced yesterday that the only change would be the X700-support I compared every single file of the old and the new download, and the only difference I could find were some added Hardware-IDs for the X700 cards. Some ID-strings for the older cards changed a bit as well, but there was absolutely no change to the actual driver binarys.

Hey all,

i like this driver set as much as you guys do

BUT...i was kind of dissapointed to not have them working on my mobility 9600 Pro TURBO

although every other Catalyst set or Omega set that have been released to this day always worked for me...

& before someone start's saying that there are NO official drivers for the mobilty range of ATi cards...DON'T!!

i have always been aware of that fact...

just thought i'd post my findings...

maybe omega would be so nice to make them available for the mobility range?? (as he always does )

Definitely saw some improvements in scores with this release. Some not major though. AQ3 and Halo showed the best improvements.

Omega 4.9's:

Aquamark03 46,189
Halo: 59 fps
D3 with shadows: 48.1
D3 w/o shadows: 63.1
3DMark03:10226

ATI 8.07

Aquamark03 49,777
Halo: 65fps
D3 with Shadows: 49.2
D3 w/o Shadows: 64.9
3DMark03: 10054

The latest ATI drivers use a card ID database to make the control panel work for all cards, since SE cards flashed to XT create a NEW ID that doesn't exists in the ATI database, the control panel will refuse to work with these cards since it is not recognized as a valid card. You either have to flash the card back to SE with a modified bios using the XT clocks (which I recommend) or use a modified database file with support for the new ID.

I just tried reinstalling the whole game, no good The only solution now seems to be to do a reformat of Windows to get Doom back up It started out well enough, but this driver has really made a mess out of D3.

I just ran some image quality tests with Doom 3 and came to the conclusion that these drivers already incorporate an active Catalyst AI.

To test this I took a new screenshot ("timedemo shot_demo002") and compared it to some old ones I made when the infamous humus-shader-replacement was still hot. The new screenshot looked almost exactly like humus' version, while both of them showed some discrepancies to the original shot. The difference is not much, a slight variation on a few specular highlights at extreme angles, but it's there.

So this driver already replaces that shader for Doom 3, meaning Catalyst AI is already active. I know ATi stated Catalyst AI would only work with the CCC, but maybe they meant you just can't control it without the CCC and it's just always on.

To be honest...i also was thinking the same...

about AI being in this set that is....

interesting to say the least

None that I know off, since the drivers take the first part of the bios ID and the second part of the hardware ID to make the final full ID of the card, so if the bios id is from an XT and the hw ID is from an SE, it makes a NEW ID that is not found anywhere in the ATI database.

??? bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory

i have probs with ut2004 stuttering for 1st 10-15 secs when new levels load in single player. ( rarely any hint of that online )

i see this beta has a fix that think sounds prominsing:

The 8.07 beta driver includes a memory allocation bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory that significantly improves performance for applications that make intensive us [sic] of graphics memory.

I guess ut2004 is pretty intense.

However i see it says for 'AGP' radeon cards. Whereas i have a x800 xt 'pci - express' g card. Will the final official cat 4.10's have the same fix for pci - e cards? Maybe this beta will even work 4 me too?

I don't think they will... PCI-e cards are already "fixed", or in other words they never had this particular bug. Shouldn't hurt to try these drivers, but I wouldn't expect the large gains that the AGP cards are getting.

These drivers rock great improvement in D3, textures and lighting look a lot sharper, better framerate too! I had some probs yesterday with the drivers, I could swear the first install made some incompatible optimizations that carried on through restart AND reinstalling I went through 3 different installs of omegas and cats before I tried the 4.9 cats with old cp, then installed the 8.07beta and it works again
-edited to make sense-
