CATALYST beta posting of 8.07 driver

A beta of 8.07 has been made available at the link below:

http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4649.html (just click on the “driver hotfix” text to download the driver)

ATI has decided to make the 8.07 beta driver available to the public for a variety of reasons:

The 8.07 beta driver fixes a random hang issue with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic when loading / switching levels. We have received a significant number of bug reports for this issue and feel that it should be addressed as quickly as possible.
ATI wants to provide its RADEON X700 customers with the same level of performance and gaming experience as shown in the recent RADEON X700 reviews. Unfortunately due to the time requirements to ship RADEON X700s to retail shelves a now out-dated 8.04 driver had to be used for the software CD.
The 8.07 beta driver includes a memory allocation bug fix for all AGP RADEON products with 256 of MB of memory that significantly improves performance for applications that make intensive use of graphics memory.

Stu and myself have been playing with these drivers for a while now, and you should be seeing some pretty large gains guys, let me know how you get on.

This bug affecting cards with 256MB of memory, does it apply to my X800Pro?

I only ask because as soon as I got my new card, I started to get random reboots and crashes. I asumed I had elecrostaticly damaged my cpu because I dropped it whilst cleaning out my rig and bent some pins.

But the problem seems to have gone away since I installed the 4.9s and the KX drivers in place of the creative drivers.

If this driver turns out to be good (overall performance) I think people would like to see the modded versions as well (Omega ).

I believe thats a source bug, not driver. Dependant on your details settings. Having tested source exstensivley with these drivers on max settings i'm seeing nothing weird.

Your probably right i've seen reports like it on the steam forums but i must admit it's not frequent and it's mainly with 9800 pro cards.
Strange thing is i saw it when i installed these drivers.

Thumbs Up!

W00t! I've been wanting them to fix this SW:KOTOR issue for quite some time now... Thanks ATI!

(On a side note, I read from the game developers [Bioware forums] that the reason why this issue was happening in the game was due to poor OpenGL implementation in the drivers... glad to see ATI is making good things happen with OpenGL! )

I do have to admit though, I think I'll wait until these fixes make it into Omegas Drivers, since my card is only 128mb, and I am loving the 4.9 based Omega's performance...

Thumbs Up!

Ive got to admit it, ATI has been kicking some booty in the driver support arena for us.

Terry and the crew are doing a fine job imo.

I cant wait to see the updated xp64 driver Terry said is on the way soon.

Things like these hotfix drivers go a long way toward showing ATI's level of commitment. You can really tell they are working hard to make progress.
