Extreme choppiness in Windows after driver install

I recently installed the latest Omega driver, and am now experiencing a extreme sort of choppiness in Windows. Restarting doesn't help. I'm using the latest Omega drivers with the 9500>9700 soft-mod.

Has anyone else experienced this?

System Specs

I experienced choppiness in menu popups/start menu, fading in in like steps. really bad. Re-installed the drivers and it went away tho.

Have you got more system info?

Got this from the omega readme, hope it helps.

After installing the new drivers and rebooting, if your desktop is SLOW and
games won't run, is because AGP acceleration has been disabled by Windows, in
order to fix this you MUST re-install the latest AGP chipset drivers for your
Mother Board (this also includes laptops). After rebooting check the Advanced
SmartGart Options in the Omega Start Menu and see if at least AGP/PCI read are
both ENABLED, if all of them are enabled, the better, but some MBs doesn't
support AGP/PCI write functions, if all still disabled, just click on "Retest
All" and press OK to restart.

I reinstalled my AGP drivers, and the Omega CP says that I'm going at 8x, but the choppiness is still there.

Allright, pressing "restest all" and restarting seems to have fixed it. I also waited a minute or two before logging in to Windows, since my HDD light was going wild still. Maybe that was it...maybe both.

Thanks for the help.

Now to think of it I've also experienced some 2D choppyness similar to what has been described in Windows with the last two driver releases. I've never paid it much attention as the 3D performance has been amazing but now that it's been mentioned in this thread I think I'll address it on my end. Everything is set correctly and AGP 8X is active as well so I think I'll use the 'retest all' function in the drivers and reboot just for the heck of it. I'll report back the results.

Well I got around to trying what was posted above. Even though Advanced SmartGart stated everything was on I retested anyway and rebooted. Afterwards 2D seems much more responsive (like normal), at least for the time being. Strange issue.

Edit: System is A LOT more responsive now. Really strange problem, but glad it was a quick fix.

I've experienced that chopiness too, on the previous omega driver, like for example grab any small window box (like on an instant messenger program or just resize your browse to be a small square) and move it around left to right, look at the right and left edges, they are choppy. Don't move it too fast because then u wont be able to notice, but move the window at a moderate speed left to right and you will see.

This has happened on both of my desktops and on my laptop with the omega drivers and I only noticed it recently.

anyhow im downloading the latest drivers on all of my machines in a minute and will see if I can fix the chopines

Well I tried to fix it with the newest drivers and hit retest all and windows still feels choppy to me.

Im starting to think this is just the way windows xp is, but how could I not notice something like that up until now...

I also had 2D corruption and SmartGart issues with the new 2.5.90 driver; but I resolved them by redetecting the normal SmartGart settings (FW, AGP 8X).

Try reinstalling your chipset drivers, then go into the SmartGart tab in the normal driver options and redetect -- even if it shows correct settings. Let it reboot and see how it behaves afterwards.
