Question about softmodding

I'm kind of a n00b, so here's another question:
when softmodding (using Omega drivers), is there any need for cooling? I know the gigabyte9550 card I'm installing has no fan, apparently it doesn't need one under normal conditions. I was reading the 9500 to 9700 guide, and I wondered if any aditional fan or any aditional hardware for that matter is needed when softmoddin through omega drivers.

There should be no need for extra cooling since the card is not getting overclocked in any anyway.
Also, I would place a fan on it even if it is not needed, I don't trust a card with no fan on it.

mmm yep. that's what I thought. Thank you! nonetheless, I have some friends with the same vidcard, and they have no problem whatsoever. Then I have this other friend, he actually overclocked the card, thus it was necessary to install an extra fan. Well, they are not really that expensive. I guess it's worth it.

gigabyte9550 cannot be softmodded! if u overclock (not softmod) then i would suggest to place a fan on it... it doesnt hurt, and if it heats up it will make it more reliable under those hot temp's.

ok, thanks for the advice. I've never been much of an overclocking fan. I read something about upgrading the BIOS, changing some settings, so that you get a 9550XT. I don't think I'll do it, although I've heard is one of the main advantages of the gigabyte9550

i dunno i suppose. tho its basically just a rebranded card with a lower die size for cooler operations, hence no need for a fan. tho i wouldnt overclock it, would be much better to buy an actual card for gaming thats worth it... like a 9800xt or something.

oh, this card is worth it. like I say, I have no plans for Overclocking it. I'm happy with it. It was very unexpensive, and deliver colorful and sharp images, and great FPS. It's good enough for me, games look great.

i bought one for my other computer

tho i would have to say new games like farcry, doom3 and hl2 will require more power

thats all i was tring to comment on. all my other games run fine with it tho.

well, that's true, since those games were specifically developed for high end systems and video cards, even more, developed for nvidia's and ati's latest products. I love games, but I'm not a compulsive player. Except for one: the "legacy of Kain" series

I own all five games, and the last one, Defiance, works PERFECT with the 9550. So, as you can see, although I like games, I don't go around getting all the latest in technology.

sticking with my current card atm. but im thinking about either an AGP version of the x700xt or the 9800xt cause i have had this card for a long long time, and want better for newer games
