Radeon driver install problem... Please HELP!

First off, hiya all!!

While being new to the Driverheaven Forum, I am certainly not new to PC's and hardware, but.... I have encountered a problem that I cannot solve myself at the moment (maybe never...)

I have just finished reinstalling Windows XP with SP2 UK.
My board is the AsRock K7S8XE+ with a Radeon 9700 flashed to Pro (and clocked to pro), 1 gig Samsung DDR400 etc, etc.
When I install the official Catalysts or Omega Catalysts, no problem, but also no AGP 4x or 8x, so I need the SiS AGP drivers for that. Now comes the problem... I tried SiS drivers all the way down and up again (1.17e latest) but my Windows crashed with a "ATIxx.dll" BSOD.

Just the SiS drivers with standard Windows Ati drivers = no prob
Just the Ati drivers with standard Windows SiS drivers = no prob

Mixing the two, so I can game again is a problem.

Nothing is overclocked, stock speeds everywhere, but the strangest of all is that my old setup ran flawless (SiS AGP 1.16a & Omega Catalyst 4.3)

Any ideas on what to do?

Thnx man!

But, that didn't do it...

This BIOS is supposed to "fix Radeon 9800SE problems" but I have a 9700Pro.

Tried Driver Cleaner, installing SiS AGP first (several version even)
Every time it fails... Been trying Catalysts (both original and Omega) from 4.3 (2.5.44) and up, but everytime the same error.

"ATI2DVAG has caused a serious error"

2.5.44/4.3 DID boot into Windows, but gave me a "VPU has been recovered" error.

Any ideas still? Might it help flashing the Ati card to newer BIOS? Maybe even put in the values for a Pro card? (Usually I use RivaTuner or RadLinker for that after all is working)

I would aim to try to get it working with the SP2 AGP driver, as Microsoft has done some things to the AGP driver standard with SP2. For instance VIA currently recommends using the SP2 driver rather than their latest separate driver release. With that installed and the latest Catalyst (or Omega), try running "Restest All" off the Smartgart tab. Make sure to 'rollback' the AGP driver to the SP2 original.

Thnx for the suggestion mkk!

Only problem is that SmartGart DOES see the cards AGP 4x or 8x capabilities, but AGP goes back to 0x after reboot.

I know SP2 AGP driver should be newer than SiS 1.17e... But no go there...

Just an idea...

Since I see that there are specially modded drivers for 9800SE cards flashed to 9800XT.... Is that the same for 9700np's flashed to 9700Pro???

Cuz my card IS a 9700np flashed to 9700Pro, but still at 9700np speeds (275/270). I usually clock to Pro speeds (325/310) using RivaTuner or RadClocker afterwards...

Could this be the problem I am facing?

It's either this (my last shot) or buying a Canyon 9800SE for 159 euro
While the idea of upgrading to a better card is tempting, I'd like to save the cash for other things (my 5 months old daughter for instance).

Guess I will have to buy a new card...

Can somebody please look at the post before this one and tell me if I have been doing something wrong on account of the drivers??

Ok, whats wrong, am I asking stupid questions or are you all a baffled as I am?

FYI, I usually installed the Omega drivers with the option "Normal Drivers" I simply never thought about using "Soft mod drivers". Could this be my problem??

mabe uninstall the SP2... that could be causeing the problems.

what could also be causeing the problems is the flashed bios on the video card, that was provent to cause problems with newer drivers. but i cant tell ya for sure cause i havent seen it first hand myself.
