I'm having issues with my mobility Radeon 9700 and two games.
Star Wars Battlefront: When I get to the character selection screen, when the character appears on the screen for selection, black "shards" or triangles shoot off randomly from the character for a few seconds. Then I lock up hard. World of Warcraft (beta): I get the same issue when at the login screen. The shards or triangles seem to eminate from the lower right corner of the screen for this game. The tech support forum at Lucas and Blizzard says that I need to update my video drivers. I have tried the Omega drivers and the issues still remain. Does anyone know what causes this type of error? Thanks in advance! |

Does it happen with both the Omega and normal Catalyst drivers? Do other games work ok (is it just those two)?

Thank you for the reply. It only happens for these two games. Had no problems with Doom 3 with the same drivers. Regarding the drivers, I've tried the Omega, DNA, Catalyst (modded), and normal Radeon drivers. No difference among the different drivers, same issue.

I'm sorry friend, I'm a bit stumped. Try disabling Fast Writes and disabling background programs you don't need running. If disabling FW does nothing re-enable it and reboot. Has anyone else encountered something like this with those two games?

D470K and Mobility 9700 issues...
Which exact laptop model do you own?
I have a M-Tech D470K (Same as the Sager 4750, both based on the Clevo D470K chassis), which also has the Mobility 9700. The manufacturer's (Pro-Star's) drivers that came with the system turned out to be based on ATI Catalyst 4.2, which worked well for DVDs and City of Heroes, but locked up Doom3. When I updated to the newest ATI drivers, I couldn't play movies from DVD or file. Media player (or whatever app) would just lock up, and sometimes take down the whole system. Also, I started seeing triangles like you describe in City of Heroes, apparently emanating from the center of the screen. A lot of 4750 owners have these issues, and apparently they started with Catalyst 4.6, so I recommend downloading the Catalyst 4.5 drivers (or the equivalent Omega driver set), and trying those out. They're the last version that plays nice on my system with both games and movies. If you need links, or want to read about my experience, go here: http://www.amd64notebooks.com/phpBB2...r=asc&start=15 Let me know if that helps, I'm trying to figure out which laptop models have this issue... |

I had a very similar problem after installing another driver. After a heck of a lot of heacaches, I figured out that it was actually a corrupt registry, and after using Tune-up Utilities Registry repair function, everything was working properly. You can get a free version at download.com, or use regclean or whatever. You could try that to see if it would work. Who knows? :0) Make sure you restart after repairing your registry.
