Maybe its SATA drive related , you intel guys that are having this problem are you using a sata drive ?

There has to be a link , its looking more like ati than ever.

But since I switched to nvidia its all behind me now. Ati is now in my dog house when it comes to buying new gear from them. MSI is forever in my dog house and will never see a dime from me again.

Thumbs Up!

Check out this thread if you read post #88 I believe our fix is on the way or at least hopefully. If you read further into it you'll find just how much crap CATALYST maker is prepared to go through to get fixes out,I'm simply amazed. That guy should get a raise.

it kinda suggests that the fix for 256mb will be fixed from what u questioned, and he replied. im unsure if that means these quake + punkbuster things are being tested and worked on.

just from those two posts i read (87 & 88)

correction, post # 109 & 110 actually do alot better, tooks some time of reading tho

This is from the Inquirer website:

ATI to fix Punkbuster problem in 4.12

Mid December

By Fuad Abazovic: Friday 05 November 2004, 16:52

MANY OF MY gaming friends told me that there is a serious problem with 4.10 drivers and games that use this tool. Many servers are using it to prevent cheats during a game play.

The list of affected games appears to be quite long. Call of Duty, America's Army, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam, Enemy Territory, Far Cry, Joint Operations, MOH Pacific Assault, Quake 3 Arena, Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, RTCW, Soldier of Fortune II and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow are affected.

In a usual scenario, a game will hang after half an hour of playing and up to now the only solution is to downgrade to earlier drivers. Catalyst 4.9 doesn’t have a problem with this tool as far as we know.

ATI said that it is aware of the incompatibility and has already finished a beta driver that is fixing the problem. ATI is still testing it and will release the beta as soon as its ready enough.

This bug will be fixed in Catalyst 4.12 - that will come in early to middle of December.

While we are talking about Catalyst we should mention that Rage 3D will have an IRC chat with ATI's Matthew Tippet, a software manager for Linux to answer your questions. This will take place on Thursday Nov 11 at 4-5 pm EST. µ

Here's the thread:

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=19501

looks like ATI is to blame for my headaches with punkbuster. I have had none since moving on to the Nvidia 6800GT so I will be very gun shy about buying an ATI card ever again.....

If they would have at least acknowledged the problem i would have held off on the nvidia but out of sheer disgust I gave up on them.

well thats not entirely true man... as you can see other nvidia folk have also had the problems too. ATI always makes work arounds for other peoples problems such as this, which is mainly evenbalance, and service pack2.

it takes time and bug reports to fix problems, also beta testers. some were not having the problem, and others were not giving adiquit bug reports, its not ATI's fault at all... but at least their helping the situation.

ati has also taken efforts to fix game bugs too, that the game manufactures wont fix... like AA bugs and various other things.

your not buying an ati card just cause ur nvidia card works... hrmm.. strange cause its not only an ATI problem. get the facts streight. glad u like the nvidia tho, and glad it works, but because a few driver releases had a bug in it, u have no right to complain, they tried and tried to fix the issue themselfs, and they have already. just going to take a while.

So now we have to wait another month when they have it fixed?

Can we have another Hotfix release with this fix?

to be very very very clear since the inquirer may have not been
what i said was

1) the official catalyst to fix this will be 4.12 (posted dec 5-20)
2) as soon as we feel good about 4.12 we will rush out a hotfix which will of course be before dec 5-20

I don't think this is issue is related to nVidia mobo chipsets. I had the same problem with my K7S5A (SiS chipset). Had no problem with 4.9. Also, here the game completely freezes, and I'm forced to press the reset button. My video card is a 9600XT. This should be fixed ASAP, since the most popular games out there have PunkBuster as their main anti-cheat technology.

dude then what about the nvidia users with the problem then BTW: the inqurer is ubber bias, loves nvidia, hates ati, just in case you didn't know. you can tell easily by thier frequent incomplete, 1/2 truth, misleadeing, misinformative, and down right false "made up information" articals ... take verything they say with 50 lbs of salt

lol, thats like every other article at theinquirer man hehehehe.

but its true about them being bias. i still love the site and read it every day myself, but i know what to belive, and i often know the full truth myself () so i just laugh my ass off. i especially like it when i made the announcement on rage3d of nvidia creating .net for their next control panel, and how it took several weeks after that to put it on their site lol

Sorry to bump an old thread, but since the 4.11's have been released, do you have any idea when you will release the beta 4.12's for those of us still getting killed by punkbuster?

Because of this kind of support I stay Ati. Clear and honest replies in a forum that isn't even really part of Ati. Thanx guys!
