exclamation CCC won't start.

Hey all, i've had this issue the last couple of drivers. Most recently with the 4.11's. After installing the driver/ccc and rebooting, after XP finishes loading all it's stuff, the ATI icon appears in the system tray. However, when I try to launch the app, it doesn't start. Also, when I right click on the ATI icon in the tray, it doesn't show the 9800 Pro and secondary 9800 pro lines that are usually present. When I check my display drivers in device manager, they do indeed show the 9800 Pro and secondary display drivers so they installed ok. With the caralysts 4.10 when opening CCC an error stating that no ATI drivers are present or they are not functioninig properly. However, i can usually reboot and then the CCC will load properly though i've been unable to get it to do so since the 4.11 update. I'm not sure where the problem is. I just started having the problem most recently with the past couple of catalysts. Any suggestions? I've used the ATI uninstall tool, then DriverCleaner 3 when doing the install. .net was also installed. Should I have the original drivers that came with my card installed before installing updates? I've seen conflicting threads on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah and specs.

For getting CCC to load, uninstall all verions to .NET and then reinstall .NET beta2. Whenever one upgrades their .NET, they should really uninstall their previous verions first. Try that and see what will happen.

G.I. Bro, all I gotta say is....You da man! I uninstalled .NET 1.1 (which happens to be the one installed via Windows Update along with a patch). To be safe I uninstalled Catalyst 4.11 as well. Rebooted. Installed .Net 2 beta from Windows website. Rebooted. Reinstalled Catalyst 4.11 and so far it's working (knock on wood). Question I have is, why on earth would my CCC not work with the .Net version windows automatically updates? I imagine this is the .Net program ATI is expecting everyone to have pretty much. Make sure that if you're having the same problem to not install the .Net 1.1 available over Windows Update since it still gives you the option to install it after already having the .net 2 beta. I'll post again if the problem persists.

w00t!

I'm expecting that you didnt really have to uninstall the cats as well. I didnt when this resolved my issue. I just did the .NET and all was fine. I guess from here on inl, i would uninstall .NET whenever a newer version comes about. Something has to be messed up with .NET. I dont really think its a cat issue seeing that so many dont have this issue. Only a select few.

BUt anyhoo... Awesome to see you up and running. Good show! NOW PASS ON THE WORD!

ati should have this info on their release notes. it would help alot of unsuspecting people out alot, tho i do know their isnt very many people that actually read anyways. so big letters saying IMPORTAINT READ FIRST would be a good idea.

Yes, that's a real issue. I was actually forced to used the .Net 2.0 as well. I wonder why that is. Anyways, it's a great way to get it to work. The .Net 2.0 Beta is quite good.

I think it's a combination of .Net 1.1 and CCC which causing the problems. I didn't have the problem until 4.10 and now 4.11. Maybe ATI are using stuff which are geared towards .Net 2.0 and not really 1.1? Hmm?

Yeah, in all the threads in all the forums in all the world, this is the first one i've seen the .Net version mentioned as being a potential problem. Yeah, it would help to if ATI had a slightly more detailed problem section on their website suggesting certain things to try in these cases. This also started with the 4.10's and 4.11's so it would seem the ATI development team was maybe using .Net 2 betas? Who knows, i'll definately make this the suggestion. One disappointment with the 4.11's is that the 4.10's (though very buggy) gave me great frame rates with Call of Duty United Offensive. Big dissappointment for me especially since this is supposed to be the 256MB card bug fix. Why the drop then?! Sheesh!
