Games issues with Radeon 9600 Pro
Hi,
I recently purchased a Gigabyte Radeon 9600 Pro video card to replace my GF MX440. Since I installed the card (on a fresh copy of XP SP2) I've been having nothing but problems playing games: - First off any version of Catalyst that I installed would cause choppy video & sound -> so I tried the OMEGA drivers - and all of the choppiness was gone. - Then I found that there were some rendering problems so I got some good advice to force Vertical Sync - which fixed that problem. - Now every single game I play has its little quirks - mostly flickering here and there or small errors in textures. The biggest problem I have now is with Far Cry - it flickers so much that it's impossible to play. I tried changing to OpenGL but that made all of the terrain turn to black The reason I'm posting all of this is that I'm trying to understand why all of these problems happen...while with my old MX440 it was smooth sailing for 3 years! Can any of the experts here give any speculations as to what the source of these problems is? Also, how is it possible that any version of Catalyist that I tried (4.8-4.11) caused video & sound to be extremely choppy? Shouldn't official releases be more stable than unofficial ones? Much thanks in advance! My Setup: Athlon XP 1800+ KT3-Ultra ARU (only AGP 4x - maybe part of the problem ?) 768 Megs of RAM WinXP SP2 (Fresh install) |

Thanks... I tried both in the bios settings and in the display settings but either one screwed up the display on WinXP.
